New member - question about dog's strange behavior
Hi, I am new to this forum and would like to see if anyone can help me and my dog.
She is an 8 yr old Female Corgi and seems to be seeing ghosts. She can be sleeping and something will wake her and she will run to me and just stare around the room. What could this be? There is nothing new in the house and the windows are closed because we live in northern Iowa. Thanks for any input |

Welcome to the board, Corgi1!
I've moved your thread to the dog health forum because I think you'll get better responses there. Hope you get some answers about what's going on with your girl!

Corgi1, welcome to the board. I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. One of my dogs used to act the same way every now and then, but I never did anything about it. It was very random and not a regular event. If this is happening often I would ask a vet about it, something neurological comes to mind if it's an all the time thing maybe. Hope you figure it out, it can be very unsettling for us to see out dogs distressed like that.

I might wonder if she hears something outside (coyote, etc)?
Any chance of stomach or spine discomfort? She's only 8, but any other signs of cognitive dysfunction from aging? |

She could be having a bad dream , my dog Marty will cry, growl or bark when he is sleeping. And his little paws will move like he is running . I sure wish I knew what Marty was dreaming about!

Dogs can get cognitive dysfunction and it's more likely to be in old age but it can happen early. Something I'd test is eyesight and hearing. When they start to fail, and they can fail early too, it's typical for a dog to startle easily. Good wishes for your girl.

Sorry for these problems.
I'm not a vet but how long has this been going on? Is it seasonal? What type of house do u have? In a rural area? Is it possible she is hearing animals (on the roof or in the roof) at night? Just thinking aloud here in addition to what has been mentioned by other members about CDS...
