cat in pain at hind

hi my 7 month old kitten mews and complains when picked up close to her hind legs .she also often lays sideways with her hind leg up. i love her very much and wonder if this could be anything serious, i am guessing constipation since her stools are hard and smaller than usual. could it also b that she cannot clean herself well enough due to her hair...should i have it clipped or shaved... any advice

Don't guess about what's wrong with her. Take her to the vet, explain the problems you're noticing and let the vet get her back into good health.

7 month old kitten having heat period for first time

Thanks to all who replied so fast.
What a relief to know what is going on with Tonali, my kitten. I had sugestions of having her smell catnip, giving her "laxatone" laxative to avoid constipation and hairballs common in cats with very long hair. Any advice on how to help a kitten "deal" with her first "heats". Sandy for Tonali

First of all, make that vet appointment to get her fixed. Never too soon. Second, watch her like a hawk. It takes five seconds to get pregnant; the minute she hits the street a tom will find her. I have never had a female cat go into heat, just treat her tenderly (I hear there is actual pain involved, another good reason to get her fixed). Wear earplugs (another good reason..)

You will probably only want to deal with her being in heat once, if you're the type that enjoys sleep. And yes, watch her like a hawk. My kitty's mom was an indoor cat that got outside just long enough .

I would get her spayed asap. There are enough of unwanted cats/kittens in the shelters. Please don't add to the population.

Tonali getting spayed

I am currently looking into community services that spay and neuter cats for free, or small donation in montreal. I was put in contact with Refuge des chats verdun in my community. Yes, i could not take another time of this mewing, and since it involves discomfort... reason more. thanks to you all Sandy for Tonali
