I have a Dane and we never fed puppy food - I'd stick with ALS

Never have used puppy with a giant breed. Makes them grow to fast you want slow steady growth. When they grow to fast they are more likely to develop bone and joint problems the joints and palettes do not fuse and gain density with fast growth.

With our first Lab in 1993 the puppy foods all claimed growth enhancing components that our breeder disagreed with and she recommended ALS which we used. Second time around in 2007 puppy food is not the same and is now claiming slow, controlled growth. Our breeder still recommends ALS. I asked her why and she says in her brand there is hardly any difference between two now and the ALS is cheaper so she uses it. Plus of course her experience with it was very satisfactory. She didn't mind if we used the puppy food but we stayed with the proven, and cheaper, ALS too.

ETA: What does your breeder recommend? Whatever the food most will say you shouldn't be in a hurry to change it while puppy is fresh home from the breeder.
