Question:

Just recently I got a new baby kitten named Tapas. Tapas is now 4 months old. Can young kittens drink milk? Why or why not?

Thanks,

Tina

Answer:

Hello Tina

Cow's milk is a natural good source of minerals. Most kittens will enjoy drinking milk and will digest it without a problem. The rare reaction is diarrhea, and you just stop giving milk. But milk should not be the main part of the feeding, the kittens also need a good source of protein from meat.

I came across this very old post while bored and browsing. Normally I would not bother with these old posts but I feel this one needs updated.
Please do not give cats and kittens cows milk. Most cats are lactose intolerate and do not handle milk well. If you insist on giving milk please use a milk replacement, available at most good pet stores, or cat milk from the store. Please do not make it a main part of their diet as it does not meet any nutritional needs of a cat or kitten.

I too understand cats are lactose intolerant (and amazing how every cartoon shows cats lapping up milk, LOL) I bought Izzy some of the special stuff for cats and gave her some. She sniffed it and looked at me like "huh?" and walked away. Gave the rest to a friend.
