jemma off to the vet.... again

Great idea showing a photo of the problem.
I have seen this before but much worse with the whole ear swollen like that, In the photo it doesn't look infected due to absence of redness, and if not sore then also indicates not infected. (Symptoms of infection heat redness pain)
The two sides of the ear split apart and fill with fluid or blood or pus, often resulting from a puncture wound or minor trauma. Usually if only blood or fluid it resolves itself but sometimes ear can stay fat or the whole ear is permentantly droopy, looks funny but doesn't bother the dog.
cheers

So we're waiting and seeing. He said he doesn't drain them when they're at the base of the ear like that. It'll either go away or become a full out hematoma. In the meantime, she got an antiallergy shot to try to get her to stop scratching it.

While we were there, the dog before us had a full out hematoma. I thought that was a pretty crazy coincidence...

Did the vet knew what caused it ?

Hematoma in the pinna of the ear is when the flap of the ear fills with blood. It's like a bruise, only it really puffs up and you have to get it drained... If you don't get it drained, it drains itself and the ear shrivels up...

Is it similiar to cauliflower ear in humans? If it doesn't drain itself will it calcify and become a hard lump?

Hope it clears up for her on its own!

Yeah, it is very similar to cauliflower ear if you don't get it drained properly.

Oh poor Jemma it sounds so uncomfortable. that it either clears up or is drained soon, so that it can be over and done with.

Love the picture of Jemma looking straight at the camera. It reminds me of photos of people who don't particularly like thier picture taken but they'll tolerate it. It seems as though she might say "Take the picture already !"

What happens is the blood will break down in the ear once the bleeding stops and then it reabsorbs or something like that. Almost always ending up in a screwy ear.
I hope hers doesnt end up all wonky like Mr.Floyds did, he had 2 one ended up in "cauliflour" look and the other ear, you would never even know he had a hematoma. Therefore this here is what Mr.Floyd looks like now.

I hope Jemma doesnt have any signs of it after all is said and done.
pretty Jemma.

Well, it got bigger today. But all in all, it's the same... It probably won't get too cauliflowery because it's at the base of it and not on the flap. That part's already a little rigid, you know?

Poor Jemma. Hope it goes away soon, or at least that the vet can treat it. And I hope it doesn't cause her too much pain or stress.

Erykah, don't you love kitty's soft furry paws?
