My cat has a tumour

Just dropped my male cat Seamus off for a biopsy and bloods this morning :-( I brought him in yesterday for a swelling on his lip he'd had for a few days. Vet says since he's only a year and a half could be FELV but I had ALL my cats tested and they were all negative plus they are strictly indoor. I suppose it's possible though in that they can carry it and not test positive for years I hear. Anyway, still won't know what type of mass it is until probably next week. This is really upsetting.

Marielle,you are not asking any question,probably need some morale support,right? We tend to look at the worst scenario,only to find out a tumor is not always a death-sentece...so chin up girl!
It could be a variety of things....One of my cats,many years ago had a swelled lower lip,turned out it was an allergy problem to his food-dish,at that time I used plastic.Was told to use china-dishes,which I am...

Chico is right - it could be any one of a lot of things, most of them harmless.

I think you're right Chico I guess I need moral support really. I should have posted on the general forum but I thought since it's a health thing. Anyway, the FELV threw me as they were all neg. and I don't quite get that. I'll do some surfing on it thogh you can bet. I know, I know about the worst case scenario and after all the animals I have loved in my entire life you'd think I'd be better at this but...you know how it is when it's YOUR animal. Thanks a million for the reply. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Motzi my middle girl had 2 tumors both turned out to be nothing althought the one at first came out suspicious. She is fine now and all is well. So keep your chin up and your hopes alive!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my Seamus. I just picked him up this afternoon and he's groggy but happy to be home. I'll know more next week.

Thanks Waggie for the support. It really does help. One good thing is my eldest girl's fructose came back very good so her diabetes is being managed with insulin. Not always easy to treat it in felines so I'm glad for that. It's all just so disheartening sometimes. Somehow you think that if you take really good care of your cats nothing bad will ever happen and of course, that's just not possible!

Marielle,we do the best we can,but it's just like people I guess...some doing everything right still get sick.
I too had a cat with diabeties,but he was very overweight,that's one thing I try to prevent in the three I have now.
We'll cross our fingers and toes for little Seamus!!!

You're right about that chico2. You love to see them healthy and happy and it sure does hurt when you can't make that happen all the time. Anyway, Seamus is happy to be home and back to chasing the girl cats around so that's what matters for now. Thanks for the crossed fingers!
