Good news, bad news, good news and news I don't know about yet....

Maybe lets start with something good
Molly is going to be the happiest doggy I can make her for the rest of her life

Bad news... the news at the vet isn't good, looks like cancer, a hemosarcoma of her spleen. I wonder how a diagnosis can be made from just physical exam, blood work (which most things were "good" but either platelets or Reticulocytes were "high" - damm if I didn't leave the paper with the results in the vets office ) and x-rays but the vet was pretty sure. No good options so far for getting rid of the damm thing, so palliative care (i.e. spoiling her rotten and lots of drugs) are the course of action for now. I'll be mulling the idea of going to see a specialist, but i'm going to see how she's doing, I can't get to a specialist right away and the vet wasn't sure I'd really like what they had to say anyways, Chemotherapy, etc. would be nasty and doesn't have great outcomes with this type of cancer. Dog I wish I new for sure what the right thing to do is.

Good news... no trouble driving, got the car tuned up and snow tires on
Bad news... i'm still in the city and have to drive home in the morning then get my butt to work the minute I get home

No idea what the weather will be tomorrow ...

More good news... I bought Molly a hamburger tonight and she ate the whole thing, and then scarfed down the chicken breast from my salad. Go figure Turned her nose up at every kind of dog food - even the "special" super tasty food from the vet (ya right!) ... can't say I didn't try

and bad news, Molly bit the VET when she took her temperature. Evidently Moll is a bit "sensitive" back there these days. Thankfully the super nice vet didn't think much of it and still loved Molly as much as ever

hemangiosarcoma, otter?

Where did the xrays show it to be? Just around the spleen at this point?

First x-ray showed her intestines with a bunch a blobs where there were supposed to be "coils"
Next x-ray showed an "enlargement" where her spleen is located.
It was all pretty fuzzy to me but my vet had consulted with the older experienced vet in the office and they concurred on the spleen idea.

Ack... I feel like I know so little about my poor Molly. I have no idea what things are supposed to look like so it's hard to imagine when someone is pointing out what's not right.

Thanks for asking questions... it's helping me get things right in my head. Besides, I want to know for sure that i'm giving Molly ever benefit of doubt, i'm a little uneasy with the quick diagnosis case ya didn't notice

Hazel... I think you got it right with hemangiosarcoma. Glad someone was paying attention

I guess it's pretty common in golden retrievers
Our vet had a lab with one so at least she had some personal experience to share

So no beating yourself up about this otter--a month would not have made a difference. Hemangiosarcoma is the devil to beat...

Ok, i'll call off the beating, or maybe just making a slightly softer beating

I don't feel any better though

Dwag i know so many of you have been through this before, heck, I guess so have I, why, oh, why, oh why does it have to happen. You can't imagine how much comfort it gives me that you 'folks are here (even though I buggered off for a long while there - guess now you know that Molly was having a few "issues" at that time too)

Don't you worry about me ! I keep thinking about where Molly comes from , how fast you fell in love with her without even meeting her ! How fast you decided that you would adopt Molly and give her , her forever home ! Whenever I saw pics of your adventures , how happy I was for Molly ! How Molly looked sooo happy and content

I would be uneasy too about the diagnose. The vet can be wrong , he could also be right. I know that you will take good care of Molly , will make her comfortable , and will not prolong her suffering if it comes to that point. But right now , she is still playing with her ball , like she always does.

I know how sad and worried you must be , we are all here for you and Molly

I'm trying to think of these things too ... I keep remembering that picture you sent me of the cage she was in before that wonderful man brought her to you... she's come a long way from there

Since hazel got the name right for me, I'm researching, unfortunately the vet is looking to be right.... but, there will always be hope!
The CUZ army will now rally their forces to protect and entertain the mighty Molly!! they have made it their mission to make sure Molly always has a toy at her disposal

I gotta go to bed....

Otter, I am so very sorry to hear that it is hemangiosarcoma.

But you are one of the bestest moms and Molly couldn't receive better care from anyone. Glad to hear that she ate tonight and I bet she will be so happy to see her cuz tomorrow.

Have a safe drive home and you better stock up on hamburger & buns and chicken breasts for Molly. You'll be having company for supper from now on.

Otter, I am so sorry . Molly is obviously tremendously loved and cherished and I know that you will continue to do so for as long as you are able. She could not be in any better hands .

BTW, something about MacDonalds hamburgers is supposed to be one of the most irresistable food items for dogs. My friend got her dog to eat those (based on her vet's recommendation) at a time when it wouldn't eat anything else .

However,Molly could not be in a better loving hands..
I just adore her sweet whitish face and hope she's not in too much pain, but McDonalds burgers seem to help,I think she'll take full advantage

I am so so sorry for you and Molly. She is such a sweetie. She had such a rough start in life and then had the good fortune of meeting her saviours - the nice man, Frenchy, and then you, her mom. You have given her the very very best. Don't ever doubt that.
We will all be here for you when you need to rant, scream and cry. We will be doing it right along with you. We will also be here cheering Molly on whenever she makes it through a hurdle. She is one very lucky doggie. She found her .

We got home at about 12:30 and I was back at work by 1pm. My boss was pretty decent about everything, fewf!!! Not that I did anything at work for the afternoon, pretty much shuffled around paper and tried to keep myself from falling into "lala land".

There was about 6 more inches of snow in the drive waiting for us.. thankfully just a small enough amount that I could still plow the car through it

I'm adding your hugs and slobbery kisses to the "bank", Molly is snoozing and I gotta do the "let sleeping dogs lie" thing

So glad that you made it home safely and that Molly is still eating.

If Molly only wants to eat people food that is fine for now.....just set an extra plate at the table. She will need something more balanced than just meat though.....has she ever had satin balls?

Hee, hee, tonight, Molly eats grilled chicken breast, I eat Pringles... I don't think she wants a plate at my table
Ooo, I forgot about satin balls... i'm gonna dig up the recipe and try those (pretty much up until a month ago Molly was trying to lose weight so we stayed away from all those goodies)

I know, i'm a bit worried she might be playing with me now, she got me well trained I figure, until she gets a couple days of good solid food in her, i'm not pushing it with anything but what she LOVES
