The baffling dog attack in France
I am really puzzled by the story of the European woman who just received a face transplant after being severely mauled by her Lab while she was sleeping.
This was certainly a terrible tragedy and I hope the reconstructive surgery is a success for her. The improvement to her awful disfigurement is dramatic, and offers her real hope for a happier future. What I dont understand though, is "how" this actually happened. . She stated she didnt know that her face was torn off until she later woke up and looked in the mirror. She was sleeping when her dog inflicted these horrific injuries (he was later euthanzied) She apparently had taken some pills to help her sleep, but what kind of meds would prevent you from waking up under such catastrophic circumstances? Anything that would render you that "out of it" must surely be dangerous to the max. And why would her dog attack her while she was sleeping? This is hard to understand. She did suffer these injuries, and her dog was responsible apparently, but the circumstances as explained seem so bizzare and unbelievable. What is your take on all of this? Am I missing something from this story?

I read the same story and the first thing that came to mind was that the dog was trying desperately to wake her up. In the gazette it was mentioned that it could have been an apparent suicide. I guess the dog could have panicked and inflicted more damage than he thought...that's just one theory. Although I can't imagine a dog would be that distructive...but than again he probably senced that she was slowing dieing and if he inflicted pain she might just come to...another theory.

I thought she tried to OD, I think the dog was trying to wake her. How could you sleep through something like that?

I too read and saw on the french news,it was an apparent suicide although she denies it.
I believe the dog was desperatly trying to wake her up,but why would he cause so much damage? It was a black Lab I believe. Still,it is a miracle what they can do nowadays.. I was relieved it was not a pit-bull,although no matter what dog it was,it was sad both for her and the dog.

And the answer is:
In a french article she claimed she was going through a tough time in her life and was abusing drugs. She was passed out from a drug overdose when her dog was trying to wake her from it. When she finally woke, she put a cigarette in her mouth and couldn't understand why she was having so much trouble until she looked in the mirror. |

Oh, I hadnt heard that is was a suicide attempt.
Well, that explains part of it.. she was more unconscious than sleeping in that case. But still, its hard to comprehend why or how her dog inflicted such extensive injuries.

Well maybe the dog couldn't get her up and panicked and got rough just to get her to get up...I really think the dog had the right intention, but panicked. Dogs can sense danger.

Who knows maybe she had stopped breathing and the dog saved her life and that is how it got repaid.

How sad that no one could speak for the dog. I just don't understand how a normal dog could all of a sudden attack while someone was unconscious. Apparently he never showed this behavior prior to the incident. I really think he was trying to save her.

cpietra, I agree. I think the dog was trying to coming to her aid... and somehow things went horribly wrong with the attempts.
Maybe the dog became frenzied trying to revive her.. Its a mystery all right. Not even she will ever be sure, I guess, why this tragedy happened. And the dog paid with his life.

what i wanna is what the hell did she do to that poor animal, dogs dont eat their owners face off if their normal and wlel cared for.
quote- 'She apparently had taken some pills to help her sleep, but what kind of meds would prevent you from waking up under such catastrophic circumstances?' she had OD and i for one am thinking she was probably an addict or such, as far as im concerned for a dog to do that your a terrible owner, and who is the worst owners out there?? -- the friggin junkies and addicts, so i personally am a bit wary of this one. if she was a junkie or addict i dont believe she deserves the attention, that poor poor animal must have been horrified to do such a thing, dogs dont eat their owners faces for no reason. perhaps she was just a dog abuser who got her cumuffins!!!! i dont trust anyone whos dog attacks so viciously, what did she do to it??? dogs dont do those things for no reason, and i have passed out drunk plenty of times with my dog and she never ate my face... it just does not sound right or sit well with me, there is somethinmg missing there.....
