Nasal Discharge

I have a 8 yrs Shiloh Shepherd, who back in October 2012 had nasal discharge and swollen lymph nodes and nose inside swollen. No other symptoms. She was treated with Clindamycin 300mg for 2 cycles and all cleared up.

Again it started up same thing nasal discharge (mucus green coloured), swollen lymph nodes and interior swollen again. She is eating and eating normally. Sleep pattern has not changed and no weight.

Starting tomorrow she will be going back on Clindamycin. Doctor wants to do a nose biopsy but I am not sure if this is necessary.

Anybody have anything similar?

Maybe you should get a second opinion from another vet to see if the nose biopsy is necessary. Then you can see if is necessary.

Being that the discharge is green, that's a pretty good sign of infection.

GSDs, particularly senior GSDs are suceptible to infections. I do not know how to counter this really. As a breed they tend to run low IgA. Many of them are also sensitive to immune boosters too. I did recently read that GABA, used for anxiety, can increase IgA, as well as melatonin. It's not like you can have your dog ue a netti pot to keep that nose cleaned out.
