Hot hot hot Summer Recipe's :D Got any?
I thought a fun topic would be good for a change.
So does anyone have any really yummie or neat to try summer recipes to share. I'll start us off with my favourite Lemon-Lime Aide Hope you like tangy! 5 large lemons 4 limes 1/3 cup of either granulated sugar or liquid honey 1 cup of boiled water 6 cups of cold water *you'll need a mesh strainer *citris squeezer (you know those things you twist lemons on to get the juice out) LOL *pitcher *measuring cup Measure out your sugar/honey and set aside Place strainer over the pitcher Cut lemons and limes in half, squeeze and strain into the pitcher Add 1 cup of boiled water to your honey/sugar...stir until desolved Add the cold water to the pitcher, pouring it through the strainer to make sure you get all the goodness from the lemon pulp caught there. Remove strainer, add the sweetened water and stir. Chill and serve!! It's very good and refreshing! Hope you like it if you try it. For those with a sweet tooth, you may want to add more sugar or honey!

OMG!!!! Don't get me started on recipes. I could sit here typing all day. Let's just say, I own over 100 cookbooks and subscribe to Bon Appetit and am on their emailing list for weekly recipes. I am also mulling over subscribing to others, such as Donna Hay.....
Only problem is that cooking is no fun for one so I have to *bribe* people over - I actually have friends that will drop anything if I am throwing a dinner party - LOL!! Michelle |

Now that's a refreshing topic change!
Would love to post some recipes but I don't measure a single thing when I cook. A dash of this........a pinch of that........ One thing that I can tell you is how I make what my son calls "smoothies". I wait until the canned fruits (fruit coctail, peaches, pineapples whatever it is) goes on sale, empty a few cans into the processor, and add it to a mixture of apple juice and (unsweetened) chamomile tea. |

Even though it's so hot in the CA Central Valley, seems like I bake more than ever. Last month it was berry cobblers, shortcake for strawberries, coffeecake with plum top, apricot cobbler. Now it's deep-dish nectarine pie with crumb topping! We have wonderful fruit and veges constantly coming into season. Melons, sweet corn & vine-ripe tomatoes! Yummmm! Farmers Market at 7a Sat/Thur morn are the place to be. You can buy fresh flowers, olive oils, honey, baked goods, nuts, etc. - all grown or produced locally. Summmmmer tiiiiime . . . and the livin is eeeeeasssy!

Girl all that talk of fresh goodies coming into season is just mouth watering. I can't imagine how lovely it is to be in California.
There are a lot of organic farms in California. Do you ever go to their markets?

Seems like sometimes I miss some of these posts.
I've never seen an "organic farmers' market" here, but they usually have several vendors selling organic produce at our regular one. I missed Thurs. and this morning. Couldn't be helped! They do sell fresh cut herbs and the plants too. I like the way they do in Europe - plant herbs in the flower beds along with the flowers. |

OH I love fresh herbs, the smell and the taste.
I love the smell of peppermint and chives in the garden. We are redoing a LOT of the yard and I plan on a special garden for my veggies and herbs. I haven't had a 'edible' garden in three years. I miss warm tomatoes in summer sunshine. Ahhhh but then again thats a fruit

I grew tomatoes, eggplant, pole beans, zucchini & crookneck squash. Picked veges fresh every evening and supplied my parents too. Unfortunately, we had a severe whitefly infestation in Modesto for a few years and tomatoes don't like to grow in the same spot year after year. Afraid I get my veges now from farmers' market or the fruit stand. A large basket of gorgeous tomatoes for $2.50 ! These were from my garden!

Ohh yum
I think with being blessed to have such a large yard I feel I am wasting it without a garden. We had troubles with a building near our property that was leaking sewage so I didn't grow for awhile afraid of contaminated soil. Those pics look fantastic, mouth watering.

What happened to the recipes?
What happened to the recipes? I read the subject and said yes! and there was only 1
I do have one... I guess it would be considered a no-bake (great for summer) fruit pie. Very easy, you need: 1 8oz package cream cheese, cut into small cubes 1 container of Cool Whip, the small one, don't know the oz, thawed 1-2 cans of crushed pineapple thoroughly drained (or any fruit you like to equal that amount) I say the more fruit the better. 1/4 Cup sugar 1 already made graham cracker pie crust Sprinkle sugar over cubed cream cheese mix in cool whip and fruit, pour into pie shell and done! The original recipe only called for one can of fruit, but I listed 1-2 because 1 wasn't enough for me. These are excellent and everyone at summer picnics LOVE them. Keep the recipes comin guys!! |
