Boy cat trying to get with girl cat
Sorry, didn't know how to word this. We have 2 cats that we adopted last month from our local SPCA. They are both 5, and are both fixed. They lived together in the previous home. Smokey (male) tries to get with Goldie(female), practically every morning.
Other then that he is a very good cat. He is driving us nuts. Goldie is an excellent girl cat, she is very affectionate, playful, loving, feminine, and lady-like. She wants NO part of getting it on with Smokey. We tried letting Goldie sleep with us and shutting our door, but then Smokey paws at it all night=no sleep. Is there a way to get him to stop doing this? I don't want him to hurt her, and he obviously doesn't understand that NO means NO! Thanks! |

I unfortunately have no idea how to stop this....but thank you for rescuing your cats!
There are lots of knowledgable cat people on here that should be able to give you advice.

How old are they? If they've both experienced you know what before, then Smokey likely is just doing it out of habit maybe?
I'm thinking Goldie will at some point let Smokey know she's not interested.

Unfortunately if they were older when they were fixed then it is a learned behaviour. It may be very hard to break him of the habit. If she doesn't mind or smacks him for trying then leave them alone. They will work it out. If she isn't happy with the situation and can't fight him off then try a spray bottle of water. Every time he approaches her with that light in his eye spray him. If you are consistent with this you may exacty be successful. Just be careful not to get her with the water. She will not be amused!

To me,it's actually not a big deal,I have 3 boys(cats)and my Rocky will try to mount Chico,Chico however will have nothing of it and lets Rocky know.
If your Goldie is really bothered and your male kitty has her by the neck, for sure,a water spray-bottle will do the trick.

Thanks for the advice.
I know she doesn't like it because she has hissed and will "yell" for help. He does pin her down by the neck. I will purchase a spray bottle. |

Hi
My wilbur looks like he is trying to mount the younger male cat O'Shawnnessy but it isn't for sex. It's showing dominance to O'shawnnessy, he does the neck grabbing thing too and OS will make a noise when he has enough. I know it's not sex cause Wilbur was 4 weeks old when I rescued him and he was raised with dogs that were all fixed. He was fixed at 6 months and hasn't been around cats until last Sept when I rescued OS and Mirabelle and they are fixed too. Debbie
