I Got Mugged!!!

I got mugged at the mall leaving the car for lunch today!

I didn't see the family of geese coming around my front bumper and mom and pop goose both got a piece of my ankle before I could get back into my car! They went along their happy little way once I was no longer a perceived threat. The iPhone picture is not great for colour - the babies were a REALLY bright neon yellow...so cute!

Gotta watch out for those roving gangs, lsf! They are cute to see, though.

The most adorable looking muggers I ever did see.

But the ankles. That must have smarted.

Nah, the ankle attack was definitely just a "back-off!" message - didn't hurt much. They just kind of batted at me. I've been pinched by a goose in the past so I know they can inflict a pretty good bruise if they really wanted to. I think this pair is generally so used to people that they've learned some hissing and rushing usually does the trick. Normally I wouldn't have gone near them, I just didn't see them coming!

Mall security said the chicks hatched about 10 days ago. This pair build a nest somewhere on the upper parkade at this mall every year. Security watches out for them, puts up security fencing around the nest if they can find it and leave plates full of goose pellets and bowls of fresh water as well. Last year one of them brought in a kid's bottle cap pool for the little ones to swim around in! I didn't have the camera phone until recently so I've never gotten a photo before now.

The Geese here at the park by the lake, are not aggressive at all, mind you I just took pics of them.
That's an adorable pic, usually they seem to have more than four chicks.

I think they can lay anywhere from 4 to 10 on average. The geese around the lake at a park near my home seem to have 6 or so following them around most years. I'll have to take a walk up this weekend. This time a year is a riot with all the chicks running around and mom and pop chasing after them! The honking snorting and hissing is a hoot to listen to!
