Tripod-German Shepherd MTL URGENT!

My friend who's an animal rescuer in Montreal is seriously ill and no longer able to keep her 2 dogs and 18 cats.

Tripod a german shepherd is 9-10 years young. He's great with cats, kittens and he's great with dogs if he's properly introduced. (His Mom took in couple of the senior fox terriers from the puppymill raid couple of years ago that SPCA Montreal did. Tripod had NO problems with the dogs) Even though he only has three legs, he gets around great and he has no problems with stairs.

Tripod also lives in a home with a 10 year old child, he's loves the boy and his friends.

Tripod does have some issues that I will discuss if someone is interested in him, but ideally I am looking for an adult home or a home with mature children. No babies since Tripod can easily get startled and react. Tripod is clean in the house, but he does need some basic obidence training. He needs a secure backyard NO apartments or condos for this pooch.

If your interested in learning more about Tripod, please contact me

They want to place Tripod in the Montreal area to keep an eye on him. But if they can't find anyone , they will consider Ontario.

We will definitely consider Ontario as the option to go in the next couple of days.

Tripod has such a delicate soul but puts on such a tough front when he doesn't know the person or is afraid of a situation, that someone may get the wrong impression of him if we are not there to help with the transition.

I am going to call the lady's friend who's taking care of the animals tomorrow to see if she has made any progress.

Tripods friend "Rocky" a cute cocker spaniel who he has lived with for many years goes to his new home tomorrow.

With the dogs, there is a time limit since the lady's friend has to pay someone to sleep over there to take care of the dogs at night and feed them and let them out in the morning. Money is tight....but the dogs aren't just going to ANY home..they are going to the best rescue or home for them.

With the cats, they need to find a new home as well...but at least they are more indepdent and they don't need to be let out late at night and first thing in the morning so they don't have to pay someone.

The lady's friend goes to the house faithfully everyday between the hours of 9-5 and the lady who gets paid comes around 7 pm and until she leaves to go to work the following day.

He's great with cats and cocker spaniels Chico.

Maybe he should be living in your home...he could be the perfect dog for you.

Just joking, I know you can't.

Thanks for the link, we already called and we got refused.

Please note, Tripod is NOT all that big, he's about 50-65 pounds.

I don't suppose he can stay where the child is.
I someone will come to this board and take pity on everyone concerned. Poodle, have you thought of posting on other boards? Will Monteregie let you post on their site (I know he isn't an SPCA dog but)?

Tripod is very food motivated, we are teaching him slowly how to "sit" on command. He's making HUGE progress.

If anyone is interested in Tripod, please contact me.

Glad you got some media attention. I suggested in your other thread that all the Montreal members should forward the link to all their friends and relatives.

We did get some phone calls about Tripod. One family was a great fit, they came over and visited him. They told us, they had to take some time and think about it. I heard from them yesterday, they are still interested but they have some concerns so they need some extra time. Which is ok.

We had another lady who called, she was interested in him since she has problems seeing! We had to make it very clear to her, Tripod could NOT be used as a seeing eye dog.

We are working on other leads as well.
