Fancy rats killing by ?
I went into my shed this morning, and I have found my baby rats (one month old)all injured. Some had the tails cut (or chewed) off. One had a big piece of skin off the back. Another one was pulled through the bars and killed and chewed outside the cage !!!! What animal could have done this ? Wild rats or weasel ?? I live in the country and I don't know how to get rid of that animals...I am so upset.. Please I need an answer !

Sometimes rats can turn on eachother. I work with rats, and they can be known to do that. Otherwise, might have been a bird. Sometimes it happens tho, such is life and the chain of life.
Sorry to hear, rats are still beautiful creatures!

Could also have been a racoon, or a cat...

Except for the one pulled through bars it sounds like they may have done it to eachother. If it was a weasel all would have been dead, wild rats maybe.Anything bigger than that would have killed them not just injured. If you're keeping outside, make sure you keep their area spotless, food in chewproof containers,no food around except with your guys who should have extremely clean secure cages. We've had wood rats around occasionally,as well as a weasel in the house once, the dogs and cats usually scare them off and since there's almost no food around they tend to leave pretty fast.Good luck the joys of being out in the country!

Maybe it was just a cat, I could see one putting their paws through the cage to "play" with the rats. Cats often don't actually eat their prey and it seems like a wild animal would have more likely consumed or at least dragged off at least one of them, not just left it chewed on the floor. Either way there's no certain way to tell and it could have been about anything. The best bet is to completely secure the cage and area from now on where nothing can get to them rather than try to figure out what did it and get rid of them. |
