Itchy Kitties

Hey,

Well, some might recall I went through an itchy few months a while back when Alley brought some fleas into the house (and those fleas had no problem biting me too! ).

Anyway, as far as I can tell, we are virtually flea free (I'm mostly using myself as a guide - since that's the only way I knew we had a problem to begin with).

The problem is that both of my kitties are still itching - scratching their necks several times a day.

At Alley's latest checkup, the vet said all she could see was that Alley had some dry skin.

I'm not sure that it's food related - Jake's on Wellness, Alley's on Fancy Feast - both canned (Alley's on the cheaper stuff because Jake's on a diet - once he loses a bit more weight, they'll both be on Wellness - it makes sense in my head ).

Of course, Alley's had her share of Wellness - we were keeping Jake's food on the counter because she was too small to jump up, and Alley's food in a cat tree tube because Jake was too big to fit in. Give it a month, and guess who's gotten big enough to jump up, and lost enough weight to fit in the tube? ..

Anyway, back to the matter at hand - if it's just dry skin, any ideas on how to treat it? It seems likely - my house has seemed pretty dry for all of us, furry or not!

You could try supplementing with some salmon oil.

Do your kitties wear collars? Could that be bothering them?

This is a bad time of year for itchies and dry skin. Teri's thought about the collars is a good one. I also agree about supplementing their diet with salmon oil (omega 3). You can also use coconut oil....if so, make sure it says "organic extra virgin" on the label.

They are both wearing collars, but Jake's had his for years with no problems, and Alley likes to get out of hers - when she's not wearing it, she's still itching.

Couple of questions about the salmon oil - never used it before.. Can you pick it up at a grocery store? Do I just put it in their food? If so, how much?

after fleas they can still be itchy its an thing that happens they still thing they have fleas its all in there head lol but dry skin use derma food

maybe the flea collars are causing dry skin
