Mini Doxie ate big dog food!
My 3 year old mini doxie has eaten my daughter's dog's large chunk DRY DOG food, it was moistened with gravey and cooked chicken.
He seems to be bloated and cant get comfortable. He has groaned a couple of times but seems to be resting now. He has been outside a couple of times, so I am hoping he has gotten rid of the food. Could this cause an obstruction and kill him? I am worried to leave him and go to sleep overnight? I am scared he may blow up and cause a bowel obstruction. What is the treatment for this and can it save him? Please answer if there is anyone out there! Thank you Sue Last edited by 4oliver; February 4th, 2005 at 12:14 AM. Reason: To state it was dry large chunk dog food with cooked chicken. |

Back to report all is well!
Oliver seemed to settle down after another trip outside late last night.
I slept with him close to me with my hand on his tummy. He seemed comforted by that. I sure won't let that happen again. Sheesh! the worry! I guess this BB is not responded to that often as I had no replies or comments yet? Have a nice day with your furbabies! Sue |

It really should not affect him other than he probably ate way more than he should have. A lot of the difference is more about the size of the food and some supplements but they wont hurt him. He was probably just a little piggie and has a tummy ache. Just like us. Just keep an eye on him a couple depsits outside and he will be back to normal

THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND RESPONSE!
I guess I was so worried last night that he would have a stomach torsion and or bowel obstruction, my mind was working overtime! I read the article on this site but he was not one of the breeds prone to that. I am dog sitting my dd's dog while they are away, so that's how it happened he sneaked into her dish. She is a much larger dog and I mix her cooked chicken with the larger dry chunk dog food. Thanks again, Sue  |

It is always good to ask when you are worried about a pet. Sounds like you are a good furbaby mommy. |
