Cool Angry Kitteh

Ummm....I think these pretty much speak for themselves.

The scrapes on his nose are from licking previous bandages, therefore one of the reasons for the cone.

Now treating with salmon oil and some Benadryl in the hope of relieving some of the worst of it while the oil gets working (on the advice of our vet).

The booboo on his nose is from licking the bandage??? Omd, he really mustn't like that. Poor baby . I think he needs extra lovings for a while to come . Although it must be difficult to hug him with the cone on, lol.

Does the vet think he's suffering from allergies? he gets better really soon .

Yeah....we think it's some pretty serious skin irritation from indoor heating. He started pulling his fur out and overgrooming/chewing his paws. He did the same hair-pulling thing last year when the heat went on at Toonces' place.

He's now got a nasty sore on his front paw, a huge bald spot on his back and his poor scraped up nose. If he didn't have that cone on the dressing on his leg would be covered with blood from rubbing his face on it.

The only way to let the paw and his nose heal properly is to use the cone.

We're giving him salmon oil, Benadryl and trying to find a food without chicken (just in case). But we and the vet think the dry air is the most likely culprit, so we're also running a humidifier.

Poor boy seems to be figuring out how to eat and drink with the cone on, but he keeps running into walls. I think he might just kill us in our sleep when this is all over. Between giving the benadryl, cleaning and wrapping the paw and putting the cone on he HATES us. I've never, ever seen him in such a foul mood before!

Oh, poor baby His nose looks so sore! Or maybe no cuz he really doesn't look much like he's open to any hugging right now...

I think you're going to have to sleep with one eye open when he's all better

I can understand if he gets peeved, poor guy, imagine being itchy and not able to scratch,I am a terrible scratcher.
We also bought an extra humidifier, although there is one on the furnace, the dry air does not agree with me.
Hope Rupert can soon lose his cone that he lets himself heall

Update

Not much to report so far except that his nose is already starting to look MUCH better Not totally healed but no longer bright red and bloody. He'll still need the cone for a while and it's too early to tell if the salmon oil etc. is helping the skin irritation.

Thanks for all the for Rupert everyone - the poor boy is still pretty ticked off!

Glad his poor little nose is at least looking better. How long before he gets his leg bandage changed?

We change it every 24 hours to clean and inspect the sore....not taking any chances with infection or it getting worse.

He loves bandage time, really

I'll bet.

that it heals up fast enough that he doesn't have to wear the bandage much longer

Well, for those who saw the incredibly nasty sore on his paw you'll be happy to hear that it has developed a nice healthy scab and hubby decided it's protected enough on it's own that the bandage can stay off. It's looking good! it is 100% healed soon.

The cone is still on though....without that he would rip that scab right off....I can tell he wants to lick SO badly! And the poor boy can't even clean himself so I've had to wash his butt a couple times.

I think we'll both be thrilled when the stupid cone can come off!

Yeah, he's one unhappy little dude wearing this cone but it's for the best. I'm hoping within the week, once the sores are totally healed, it can come off and I'll watch him really close to see if the licking/chewing/pulling resumes. I really hope I'm right about the root cause of it.

It's getting there, but he keeps licking his nose....he has a REALLy rough tongue, even for a cat, so that is irritating it some.

I sat down on the floor with him a few minutes ago and took the cone off....wanted to give him a few supervised minutes to give himself a bath. And he goes straight for his paw and starts gnawing on it!!!!! I stopped him right away before he could do any damage, but clearly this is going to take a while...

Has anyone heard of that mental disorder where people desperately want to lose a limb(s)???? I swear that's what this cat is trying to do to his paw!

I'm sure at this point it's getting itchy as it heals. Give it another week or so

Poor Rupert. He must feel terrible not being able to relieve his itchiness. Not that it's a good idea when he's doing that to himself.
I was hoping he may be feeling better but if he's still really itchy . I think food allergies can take quite a while to get out of the system. I'm sure with the dry heat that will take a while too.
Poor sweetie. Poor you!
