I've taken my dog to 2 different vets both just saying he hurt his back. He is on prednisone now for over 2 weeks and cannot walk. This was the problem. All of a sudden his front legs would give out (Like a wet noodle and he would fall on his head). After one day on the durg he was back to normal. THen he was back to not walking, I don't know what to do. Is this it or do I need to find another vet as I can't stand just watching him lay. Its a chore for him to get his food and water, although he is still eating. H E L P>

KSP so sorry your going through this! If there is anything I can say it would be get yourself to another vet! But having said that what kind of dog do you have? what tests have the 2 vets done already? what makes them think he hurt his back? does your dog have any pre existing illness's?

What does the vet think about the relapse after a day of relief? If your vets aren't aggressively trying to pin down the reason for the back pain, I'd definitely seek the opinion of a specialist.

How old is your dog? Is it possible that he's had a stroke instead of a back episode?

What did the X-Rays show? I have been through this a few times with different dogs and X-Rays were always taken at the primary vets before we were given instant referrals to a neuro. No vet has ever just prescribed steroids without taking an X-Ray - and actually keeping our dogs at the clinic until the diagnosis was made.
