Very depressed- strange behavior from my dog
My dog Lilly is 4 and 1/2 years old, I have had her since she was 3 months old.
She has always been a very happy dog, never acted the way she acting now. She is moping around the house, shaking and yelping if you even look at her like you are going to touch her. At first I thought that Lilly might have broke her leg, sprained it, or even strained it b/c she was not jumping on and off couches and my bed as usual, until I finally gave up and went to the Vet. The vet fed me some information like she has fleas and she is extremely irritable from being so itchy that is why she is shaking and yelping so much. She has prescribed her with some anti inflammatory medication to help her stop itching. I am not so sure I believe this, and I am wondering if anyone out there knows what would cause a happy go lucky dog to change overnight?? I am so depressed over her being so depressed... Please help! |

If it's fleas, why isn't the vet treating for fleas? An anti-inflammatory would help if she's having a bad response to flea bites but she really needs to get the fleas OFF her if that's the issue.
Did the vet do a thorough exam? Any blood work? How did he diagnose the flea issue?

Hmmmm
I agree with bendyfoot
Try a different vet, another opinion is always uselful. Maybe while she was playing out she got bitten by something? She could be having a very bad reaction to something, inside as well as out. does she scratch a lot??

Find a new vet. Could be a bad reaction to something the dog ate or rolled in. But another visit to a different vet is definitely in order

I agree with getting a second opinion - and I think bloodwork is a must. Bloodwork will tell you alot about the health of your dog.

When my lab started yelping and acting strange (she'd yelp walking up the stairs) it turned out she had a Urinary Tract Infection. A second vet opinion is definitely in order, as is a flea treatment if in fact she has fleas. I hope you get this resolved soon.

Thank you!!
Thank you to all who responded !! I really appreciate it!
The vet did give me frontline and told me to bathe her first and then put it on to treat her for that, I did so and today she was a little better- alot less itching, and yelping. But the thing im most concerned with is her shaking. She will just be found sitting on her bed shaking- I am very stressed about her well being- but i thank you all again for your responses!!!!!!!!!!!! |

iluvlilly , the shaking means she's not feeling well , dogs will do that to comfort themselves. This can't be just fleas.
Please take her to another vet. |

Thanks...
Well im glad that you just told me that the shaking means they are trying to comfort themselves. I am going to wait till Monday and if she doesn't seem to change I am def. bringing her to a new vet.
Already today though she has started jumping back onto the bed and couches unlike the other days when she wasn't. Thanks again ILUVLILLY |

Keep in mind that dogs feed off their human's feelings...if you're running around the house feeling frantic and anxious, that's only going to escalate whatever stress she's already experiencing. Stay cool.
