Did somebody say MUD?!

My crew is feeling a little left out these last few days as I've been leaving them behind when I go out to do chores. This is the reason why, this is my field right now (acutally, this was yesterday before it rained even more and then snowed some. It's actually even worse now Given the chance to come along during chores do you think the dogs would politely pick their way around the mud? Nooooo, they go flying out through the gate, under the fence, ripping and tearing around and splashing it everywhere. And then some of them decide to lay right down in it and cool their bellies. Sorry pups, you're going to be some very bored-er collies for the next little while

Just 2 weeks ago it was still all snow and I was still dogsledding around this very area.

and this is the backyard. It's not such deep sucking mud but still creates a mess when the dogs come in.

Oh my, I thought my yard was muddy, but you have us beat.

Funny, doesn't seem to bother the dogs, does it

Wow that IS muddy! But your dogs sure have an awesome set up, and they look like they enjoy the mud regardless. Beautiful dogs.

NonononoNOOOOO! I need it to dry up around here or I'll never get them out for a good run around! Actually I just checked the weather network and tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and windy and then 3 days with flurries but no rain for the whole next week And they're calling for night time temperatures below freezing all week so maybe the mud will at least freeze up overnight and I can get out early doing chores and let the dogs run then. Actually, I want the trails around us to dry up too so I can get the ones in training out on the cart for a real run, it's been 2 weeks since our last trip with the sled. They've been conditioned to run several miles a week, and they've got some pent up energy to burn off. It's time to change to wheels and get moving

Thanks! And yes, they do enjoy the mud. It's the traffic of so many dogs in the yard and the horses in the field that churns it all up so bad. If I had more grass in the yard there wouldn't be so much mud now but they're not dogs that just walk anywhere. They run, wrestle and play tag and wear the grass all away. It's funny how you always hear that you can't just put a dog out in the yard and expect it to entertain itself but mine sure do when they're out. Mostly because they have each other but also my pup Dru is very good at playing all by himself. I sometimes stand looking out the kitchen window watching him toss toys around and chase after them, or drag a piece of old carpeting around. He's a funny boy that never gets bored.

Here are some shots from back when the yard wasn't so muddy (last summer). Of course, back then there was grass to cut, bugs and it was hot. I like winter best with the nice clean white snow, no mud, heat or bugs.

Greener days

I've just been looking back through some older ones I have in my photobucket album. Here are some more "greener" shots. These are older, Rain and Storm were just babies

And this is out in the field in that same area where it is currently flooded and deep sucking mud where I have to be careful not to loose my boots.
