Cat and wound question...

My cat Scooter has a small bite of some sort (I mean really small with a scab not even formed yet.) I know he has been licking it and I have cleaned it well, and caught it early I believe. My question is my moms cat ALWAYS has to go to the vet to have even a small wound drained and cleaned etc. from getting infected. Are my chances any better of it healing on it's own now that I am cleaning it before it has a chance to get infected? (I am just crossing my fingers It can heal on it's own Thanks for any advice!

do you know what the bite is from?

I'm NOT a vet, however, if it were my cat, I'd keep it clean w/ antibacterial soap (like Dial) and lukewarm water - pat gently, rinse gently (again, pat w/ lukewarm water), let it air dry for a few minutes, then apply an antibacterial ointment. just a dab will do.

depending on where the bite is located, you should clean it multiple times a day. i.e. if on a paw or part of the cat that comes in contact w/ the litter box, clean it OFTEN - to keep bacteria out.

I hope this cat is an indoor cat, but if not, keep kitty inside until healed up to minimize infection.

If at any time you notice it's looking worse, puffy & swollen, red and irritated, oozing AT ALL, get right in to the vet. Cats generally don't show illness or pain, so you'll have to check the spot a few times a day to be sure it's healing properly.

That's dead on what I am doing with the little wound. I wouldn't hesitate to take him to the vet if it started looking bad in the least. Thank you so much for your personal experience!
