My new SR Dog!
WE adopted an 10 year old PUG mix. We only leave him alone for about 2 to 3 hours at atime. He barks the whole time. We taped it to see. We have had in over 1 week, I know that we are still adjusting. But I live in an apartment and other residents are so forgiving.
I have tried kong toys. They don`t work. Cashew will follow me every where in the morning to make sure I won`t leave her alone. My heart breaks I even called in sick today. I need some advice! Help! |

Who did you adopt her from? What did they tell you when you got her?
She is new so saying separation anxiety may not be true. She may settle. You should call a certified trainer right away. |

Bless your heart for adopting a senior THANK YOU
My guess is this baby thinks you may not come back and you must be patient and forgiving of this barking. Leave your baby with a little treat as you go out the door, never say STAY say 'I'll be right back' Each day go for 10 or 15 mins, outside...wait and come back, FUSS the dog up like no tomorrow and take for a little walk outside and a little treat. This baby's first owner ...obviously never came back and we don't know what really happened there huh? So, be patient, try the short time aways, treat praise and walk IT WILL work out hopefully in time

Cashew....
I believe Cashew was one of the dogs I saw on Rosie's animal adoption site. He is very cute. You may want to try asking his foster mother, as I know the ad said he was in foster care, and it also said the home had other small dogs... maybe he wasnt left alone, but with the other dogs, and he is lonely??? Maybe he misses the other dogs company! Just a thought. He is adorable. Congratulations. Be patient. I am sure he will return lots of love for your patience. Again, just a beautiful guy!!

Agree with Luba. This is not separation anxiety. This is an older dog who is anxious, confused, insecure and frightened at the loss of everything and everyone that was familiar to him. Poor baby.
Even though it's not SA, I think the method used to treat that will work with this dog as well. If there is any chance of taking a few vacation days it will give you a chance to work on this. Here is a link - scroll down to "What to do if your dog has SA" HERE And yes - THANK you for giving this baby a chance!!! |

The radio is a great idea, select a soft easy music listening station, no talk radio or news or heavy music. GREAT IDEA and GREAT link LR!

Thanks for your responses. I leave the TV on all the time. Cashew goes for walks about every hour and half, when we are home. Being an older dog I am afraid she might need to do her business moreoften than the other dogs I had. I have called the foster mother, she was surprised that she barked at all. Everyone I talk to at Rosie is all so suprised to hear she is a barker. I have called a trainer and done everything that she has asked. I guess we will just have to wait...I don`t mean us I mean the people in the building. lol
