You're Invited to a Garden Party!
Went out and snapped this this evening and though I would share.
Poppies and Beared Iris--It's amazing how orange and purple compliment each other! Here's my lonesome little hummingbird feeder. I don't have any hummingbirds cause they're all at Hazel's house. More Bearded Iris and peonies ready to pop!

thanks for sharing! I think we have some very talented gardeners here on Pets.ca! Makes me envious, but soon enough I will be getting my hands in the dirt. Our growing season is much shorter up here.
You are right, the purple and yellow look great beside each other. Are they both perennials?

Thank you so much Mollywog and you are right--so many beautiful gardens and it's great to get some good ideas too.
Yes the poppies and Iris's come back every year. As a matter of fact, they spread every year and I end up dividing them and sharing with family & friends.

Beautiful, klm! I like green and orange and purple together, too--they're secondary colors, don'chya'know--and secondary colors are a symphony for the eyes.
I wish I had irises. I've always loved them, but somehow I always manage to rot them out before they bloom Your peonies look to be at least a week ahead of mine--the buds here are well-formed, but not opening quite yet. And my poor beleaguered poppies are only about 6 inches tall...hubby manages to weed whack them every spring before they get a chance to bloom, so this year I put a fence up. They might not bloom at all this year--but I'm hoping they at least put in some sugar production and build up some energy reserves for next spring

Tertiary gets even better.
I wish I could send you some of my irises. I'm actually digging some up in the fall and bringing a clump to my office cause I have way too many. I actually thought the same for my peonies too! They normally pop out after my blaze rose but they jumped the gun for some reason. Poppies are also an over abundance. Must divide them next year as well. Anybody want some?

Beautiful flowers you have. I love orange and purple together too.
My peonies have just started to open and my salmon coloured poppies should open any day now. The reds are a way off yet. I have a few roses in bloom and the blue iris in the pond are blooming. The yellows are just starting to show colour. Spring is so nice. I love to see pics of peoples flowers. Cindy |

I'm finding that the peonies are out way too early this year. They also managed to grow about another 8 inches higher then years past.
I have a couple roses that have sprouted but I think by next weekend, the climbers will start to bloom with full bloom shortly thereafter. They're always such a beautiful show.

I had four Peonies (Raspberry Sundae) framing the front sliding glass door but had to dig them up as soon as the ground thawed and transplanted them. Sheeba kept digging near the door and I was afraid she'd kill them. They are growing in their new home but won't get anywhere as tall as yours! :sad:What do you feed them? I never had Peony before these. I mixed in a big handful of composted manure in each hole when I transplanted.
Chico, Bearded Iris (the bigger fluffy flowers) need to be planted very shallow, almost just sitting on the surface, where the rhizome stays dry and gets to bake in the sun. If too deep or too wet, they won't do well. However, Siberian Iris takes damp conditions quite well but they have a different looking flower. Does anyone have perennial poppies? Or just the annuals? I saw on a garden video a gigantic poppy. Must have been 5 feet tall. I think it was called Papaver orientale 'Goliath.' Cultivar is also named "Beauty of Livermere." Pretty hardy for most areas. Veseys has a lot but not the Goliath group. I can't stand annual poppies. They tend to crowd out my perennials. But a nice perennial poppy would be nice and more manageable because they can be chopped after flowering and will behave much better than the annuals.

Here's a picture of 2 rose climbers along the side of my garage. This was taken last year as they're not out in bloom as of yet. I have this picture as my desktop picture on my computer cause the 2 of them together look like a big heart.
