Your favorite breed?

So I have a question for you, what is your favorite breed? I know it's difficult to pick just one so you can name your top 3 if you want to! I just find it entertaining to see what different characteristics we look for in our dogs.

For me it would have to be:
1) German shepherd
2) Bernese mountain dog
3) Great dane

Ooooh, it's so hard to narrow it down to just 3 with all the wonderful choices!

3) mastiff (I like almost all mastiffs, so I won't specify!)

It would be easier to pick 3 that I don't like favorites ; 1.goldens/labs 2. big dogs 3. even bigger dogs just re read my post and it seemed like I didn't liked the breeds I listed!

I just read through these posts and can't believe no one mentioned shih zu's. These have got to be the best little dogs, they don't shed, don't bark, just want to be cuddled and with you all the time. You can dress them up and do there hair up in a ponytail and make them look pretty. I guess everyone has their own tastes and mine happens to be shih zu's. They all should recieve the love they get from the people on this forum, some of the stories of abandment are heart wrenching. Here's a pic of Beauty who passed on last winter,,how could you not love her. Dobb

Lol, I just had to laugh! I suppose having a shepherd that's not what comes to mind! But that's why it's so interesting to see everyones choices, we all love dogs and value different characteristics!

I would have listed shih tzu as #1 (have a cross) but I hate being limited

I really thought about it for a while before I answered what I did and realized that I don't have a favorite breed...fav dog? yes breed...no....love them all too much to pick a fav.

I thought this was an old thread or you would certainly have heard from me.

Shih Tzus first a hardy good family dog sweetest temperment imagionable.

Caviler King Charles Spanial I've never had one but I just love their looks.

Cocker Spaniels (even though Lacey was attacked by one I still like the breed)

Thats my top three although I due have a weekness for Chinese cresteds and Papilions.

Rough Haired Collies....my very first rescue (RIP Sable)
and I hope that one day, when i get a bigger house I will rescue another one. I love how they talk. Sable always had something to say. He taught Winnie how to play and talk at the same time.

1. Bullmastiff
2. Minpin
3. Great Dane
Yes I currently own all three, and there is really no order to my preferences, although esthetically I am drawn to the bully...(don't tell the others). I love them all for very different reasons, and appreciate their qualities that specific to their breed. Bullmastiff (stoic guardian) Great Dane (scaredy cat goofball) Minpin (energetic busybody) Plus, its real fun to walk a Great Dane and a Minpin together

1. GSD - i think they are gorgeous but i don't know if i can handle so much dog
2. Papillon - my mom has 3 of them and my grandma has one they are the most gorgeous little dogs with diva attitude
3. Cocker Spaniels - I will always have a cocker spaniel they are the sweetest dog easy to train and easy going they make my heart melt

So many . . .

Scotties and Shibas of course, and all the bully breeds, all the mastiff-type dogs (I'd be here all night if I listed the breeds), Shih Tzu, GSD, Rottweiler, poodles (especially the standards), Cavalier Spaniel, Brittany, all the sighthounds, the herding breeds. So, really, all sorts

There certainly are a lot of BIG dog lovers out there. I am not a fan of small dogs, I am always afraid of steppping on them, or loosing them on our property. But my pick would be...

1. Vizsla
2. German Shorthaired Pointer
3. undecided, maybe a Springer Spanial, or American Cocker, but I dont like grooming, takes too much time, something I never have enough of.

Since attending shows I have seen and met a lot of really interesting looking dogs, and everytime I go I think maybe someday I would like one of those, but I think I will ALWAYS be a HUGE Vizsla lover.

1. Pugs of course
2. British Bull Terrier
3. O.E.B
4. Neopolitan Mastiff
5. Dandy Dinmont Terrier
6. Chinese Shar-Pei
All of these are some of my favourite breeds! But all dogs get the same love no matter what!

1. Border Collie
Although I am not in the position right now to give that breed the amount of mental/physical exercise they need, I love their personalities and would love to own one in the future to promote in agility and herding trials.

2.Australian Shepherd
Again, another breed that I love for their personalities, in addition to their "looks". I'd want to stick with a puppy from working x show lines for this breed, but I'd love to own one for conformation/agiliy.

3.Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
When the time comes, this will be my next purebred dog. I've actually picked out a breeder already... I love this dog's 'looks', work ethic and temperament. They love to work, but have a definate "off" button.

4. Shih Tzu
The only breed that I own now that I would love to own again - I just love everything about them.

My all-time favorite, no one comes close, is the HOVAWART in black-and-tan. Not only is it a beautiful dog to look at, it's also a wonderfully intelligent and intuitive dog. Originally bred to watch the farm (hof = courtyard/ farmyard + wart = guard) it would stay home and watch over houses, equipment and people while it's cousin the GSD was out watching the sheep (Schaefer = sheepdog). The breed almost disappeared, but some smart soul managed to get it back up, and I will never ever have another dog as wonderful as Rafal!

It's not a very well known breed, and I can't see them ending up as rescues, but maybe the Hovawart Club has some for rehoming, it is a large dog after all, and some people may not be able to keep one that size for different reason.

Second? Do I have to? OK, the Husky personality is terrific, if they could stop RUNNING AWAY all the time and break their collars, harnesses and leashes!

I also loved my brindle Great Dane, she was adorable.

I like every breed of dog and I loves mixes... but my next dog will be a dog that's NOT independent or dominant...I just want an easy going silly goof ball, I don't care what breed it is...
