New beta!!

I was just at petsmart (just browsing, but I had wonderful snuggles with the most handsome silver longhaired kitty boy with orange eyes...DW said we have too many though, and she's right......but if anyone lives in Nepean and knows where the petsmart at Merivale and Hunt Club is...go see!)

Sorry, I digress...fish...

we've been talking about getting a beta for our long-empty 10 gal. tank, and were looking at some today, and I discovered the most amazing beta I've ever seen! It's called a clowntail beta...has anyone ever seen these before? Their fins are long and flowy and multifaceted, just gorgeous! His name is Bruce and he's sitting on my desk right now, DW has scampered home to finish setting up his tank!

It's actually a "Crowntail" betta you're refering to, not clowntail. they are starting to show up a lot at the warehouse petstores.

crowntail, huh? I coulda sworn it said cLowntail on his label...

ah well, what do I know?

Bruno (we changed his name a little bit, the neighbour's dog is named Bruce)
is doing very well, seems to be happy. We're starting to think more about introducting a buddy or two (some little shrimpies or something...)

haha naah, its unquestionably crowntail.

he is in a 10g right?? you could add some cherry shrimp, no bamboo though. im not sure if a 10g would be enough for such a large filter feeding shrimp. uh... an Otocinclus or two, dwarf cory cats but those guys are expensive. Endlers Livebearers are really small, pretty but not long finned. they breed though..... wildly. maybe some Threadfin Rainbows?? there are several different very small Rasboras, groups of 6 or more though.

not ALL of them but you could add a group of smaller fish. a group of 6-8 really tiny fish like any of the above mentioned and 2 oto cats?? or do 6 (no more) tiny fish and 2 oto cats and 4 shrimp?? with that stocking though id suggest minimum 2g water change weekly where as with just the betta you can probably get away with 1g every 2 weeks.

I have 4 rummynose tetras and a glowlight in a 10g with one of my bettas (was supposed to be 5 rummynose but apparently live aquaria can't tell them apart ). They get along just fine.

Lots of Aquarium stores (not the pet warehouses) will throw bettas into random tanks just to show the sorts of fish that they will be compatible with. Cory cats are really cool, you may be able to get a loach, but stay away from gouramis.

most loaches should be in groups of 4 or more and many of them get way too big for a 10g although Kuhlis shoudl be ok, 5 or 6 in a 10g?? very cool, social little guys.
