Hi everybody

Well i am new to this forum. I just came accross it by accident.
Once i have figured out how exactly it works, i hope i can find a lot of information on here, and maybe be of some use for people who seek information. I am not an expert, but i have been owned by Irish Wolfhounds for 25 years. So I may have some usefull information about the breed. At the moment i have a Dogue de Bordeau and a Great Dane. So any information or exchanging of stories is welcome.

Your pics should appear at the same time as your posting. Check out the 'How to post a pic" section which will provide some info on sizes allowed, type, etc.

If you want to post multiple pictures with no size restrictions (which will save you from having to resize) you can go to photobucket.com and set up a free account. Then, after uploading your pictures, you can create a link between photobucket and your post.

Can't wait to see some pics.

Cheers,

Welcome to the board. I have only ever met one Irish Wolfhound and she was very sweet, she used to go to work with her mom at a store and I would go in all the time just to see her. Enjoy yourself here and have fun

My DDB came to my care by accident, i rescued him from a shelter. Everybody else passing his cage seemed to be terrified by him since he was so enthousiastic, just wanting attention. And he looked ever so sad. So i decided to take him home with me. He is my first DDB ever.

Now lets see if i can manage to get a pict of him on here.

Serious

He always looks like that. I keep telling him to brighten up, it may never happen, but still...

But do not let that look fool you, he can be one hell of a clown.

Gimli thanks you for your appreciation, and yes i was told that he was a very nice dog for his breed.
I have a quetion for you, is it typical for DDB to be afraid of the rain ? Or is it just Gimli who is such a sissy. When it is raining there is no way i can get him to go out.

Its most likly just a quirk of his.My Rosco (bullmastiff) hates puddles

I made sure a pup to take him out in the rain so it wouldnt be something he was afraid of.

I do not think he is really afraid, he just does not like to get wet. And of course he transferred the bad habbit to my other puppy, who by now refuses to go out in the rain also. For some reason although being a male, Gimly took up the task of mothering the little puppy when i first got that one at the age of 8 weeks. As of today he still keeps up that task, although the puppy grew twice as tall as him in the mean time.

Yeah, I think you'll find its fairly normal for dogs to dislike the rain. You could always get him a rain coat

Thank you for the welcome. My kids are quite new to me as a breed. I used to be owned by Irish Wolfhounds, and these guys are quite different. I will be posting some more picts of them, as soon as I get around of having them devellopped. (as far as picts go, i still have to enter the 21st century). For as far as i can see on the little pict, you Mastiff looks quite impressive.

What a beautiful doggy! What I love most about dogues is how soft they are. There's no dog as soft as a dogue!

From your avatar, your dane looks mighty pretty too!

Yes indeed he is very soft, feels like velvet. The great dane was still a puppy when the pict was taken. In the mean he changed a lot, those enormous ears finaly came into proportion with the rest of his face.
What breed is your dog ?

DayaXaron from Brussels,Welcome to our Forum!
Love your Douge and also love Great Danes, they must be quiet an impressive pair when you take them for a walk, they both look velvety soft
I walk a Cocker Spaniel and she will absolutely not go out in the rain,I don't think it's all that uncommon with dogs.

Thanks for the welcome. So far i have not taken them both for a walk at the same time. The great dane is still too much of a nut case and i can not completely trust him to be obedient at all times. So if both of them would suddenly pull together i would go flying. As for the rain... when they have to go out, i open the garden door, they will put just their nose out and with the first drop they feel they come storming in again.

My sister's dog (some sort of corgi mix) hates going out in the rain, too. My sister claims that whenever they go for a walk in the rain, he just glares up at her angrily - where she lives, it rains a lot so sometimes if he wants to get outside during the day he'll have to get rained on

I'm new, too, so from a fellow newbie "glad you're here!"
