Rotweiller owner testifies at inquiry
SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- The owner of a pack of Rottweiller dogs that killed a four-year-old New Brunswick boy in his backyard says they were "perfect pets'' up until the day of the killing.
Mike Clark took the stand in Saint John this morning at a coroner's inquest into the death of James Waddell. Clark says he let the dogs out for a run that morning but admitted they were normally kept in a chain link pen even though they'd gone through obedience training. He figures that the largest dog, a 150-lb. male named Thor, did most of the damage while trying to get to a female dog that was in heat. Clark told the hearing that when he came out to look at the scene Thor was standing there with blood all over his face and neck wanting to play. He says he thinks he went into shock after locking the dogs up again. The animals were destroyed. © Copyright 2003 Broadcast News
