Tiger Lilies finally blooming!
It's been a slow summer in terms of growing things.
My first Tiger Lily finally popped today! I have been collecting bulbils for the fall seed trade Next flower- don't know the name but a few of them have popped up in with my Phlox, sure is pretty ! Speaking of Phlox....

My one Hosta has bloomed, pretty light purple flowers.
My Coneflower is just finishing its bloom. Foxglove... my absolute favourite!!! The bumblebees really like it too! But still no hummingbirds in the yard- I even put the feeder out by the front flowerbed, and change the food every week

My Dad's "babies", he planted these Tomatoes from seed under a growlight early this spring. They are coming along nicely but need some heat to ripen them up!
I "rescued" this Mum from the local grocery store, they put all their old, dried up perennials and annuals on a cart and a sign that said "help yourself" so I did it was really dried up when I got it but it seems to be making a turnaround! And finally, I planted these Dwarf Sunflowers from seed when we moved in at the end of June. I hope they bloom before a frost hits!!!

Yep you sure got a true tiger lily there.
I think the other one is a Rudbeckia. But it's hard to tell without seeing the foliage. Sometimes the daisy-like flowers can get confusing. Save some seeds for me.

thanks Ceara, I see a lot of Tiger Lilies up here, some even growing wild. They sure are exotic looking for our climate!
what seeds would you like me to save?? I think I have caught the gardening bug, and can't wait to add to my gardens!

Very pretty! Whatever that black-eyed susan-looking flower is, it sure is pretty! Must look really striking in amongst the phlox!
I'm thinking of getting some foxglove for the well garden--it's outside the fence, so the dogs wouldn't be able to get at it Do you know if it likes dry or wet soils? Seems like everything coming up wild in my yard is an obligate wetland plant this year Not sure if it's like that all the time (this is the first year I've actually paid attention) or if it's just the fact that we've had more than 8 inches of rain in August alone

Foxglove can tolerate some wetness but to keep it from swimming you can always add a touch of sand and grit/small gravel in the planting hole to ensure drainage.
Molly I'd love to see the wild ones, can you get a pic? Maybe you have the native Canadian lily. Phlox like that doesn't really work with seeds, or so I read, and the best way to propagate them is through the root cuttings or division when the clumps get big. Yes I'm looking for good late blooming perennials so I have something to look at besides Echinacea.

Ceara I will keep my eyes peeled fior wild lilies next time I am at the beach (thats where I spotted some with bulbils earlier in the summer)... if we EVER get warm weather!!! Hard to believe that in less than a week (Sept 1st), I'll be back to school! With my luck, it will heat up as soon as I go back to work
We have had a wet summer here too, but my Foxglove seems to be holding up ok, apart from a few discoloured leaves at the base of the plant.
