LOL. It does. It's the dingo in him though, Growler, they can bend their heads over their shoulders like that to look at you if you get behind them. We didn't have a good day at Obedience today, his mind was just not on the job. They say that cattle dogs have their own Rool book, well his first rule seems to be to break from a Sit Stay just because he can. LOL. I am praying he doesn't prove to be as stubborn and cunning in his naughtiness as my red girl, Susie, was.

GF, I'm sure Roo will make up a lot of his own rules. Don't they all?? Nikki and Lupa have an excellent sit stay when waiting for a release to eat their meals. Otherwise, they don't know what the words mean!

This will be a quick post as I need to get to bed. Thought I would post some more fun photo's of Roo. I haven't trained him at all this week. Well, not in the usual way, walking him down the road, training now and then on the way back. I am getting asthma whenever I exert myself, darn it! Good thing I'm seeing my GP tomorrow.

Roo is really filling out nicely , I like the second photo , . Sorry hear you're getting asthma , my brother and younger sister has it and I know how bad it can get.

Didn't see this answer, Barkingdog, sorry. I can sympathise with your family members who are asthmatic. It is particularly bad for me on cold mornings or cold evenings when I have to feed ponies and sheep.
Thought I'd put up a photo which shows how chunky young Roo is now. And his new bestest toy. The ball has two silly feet on it but they are good seeing he picks it up often by them. Oh, I haven't had Gemma put down. I took her to a vet today and he thinks she can have some more time if I put her on Metacam. So that's good news. |

GF, great news about Gemma. I hope she is able to rally for a while with the new pills.
Roo is filling out wonderfully! He sure looks to be strong and proud, so good looking. Those balls here are called Cuz's. We have a white one. Shadow and Halo never much cared for the one we have, and the pups play with it now and then, and like Roo they cart it around by the feet lol. I know for a lot of people have the feet chewed off is an issue. So far not here - yet. But I see Roo is working on it on your end. |

That is great news about Gemma. And Roo looks wonderful , he's a a very handsome boy. My sister wear a scarf over her face to keep the cold out of her lungs , does that help you at all?

Roo is looking very fine!! That would be a Good Cuz ball very loud and annoying...if it had horns it would be a Bad Cuz (Chum has a turquoise one) and bad cuz is about twice as loud and annoying LOL!! Funny thing is Chum will not put the feet in his mouth for some reason...just doesn't like feet I guess! That's not a bad thing as it leave a dog slime free area to pick it up by to throw it for him LOL!

Yay, you're all right of course, it is a Cuz. Are they made in America? So far I like it better than the Kongs. It has the added allure of the squeaker and those chewy feet, and is softer. Jarrah would like to play with it but he's firmly into the 'What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine too ' phase, which includes yours truly , she is not allowed near me for a pat. I'm his person, and that's that! I might look for another Cuz for Jarrah.
Barkingdog, what else can I say but a big 'Duh!'. I didn't even think of using a scarf. Thanks for mentioning that, it'll be on the shopping list for sure. I am positive it'll help. We are having a particularly cold Winter - and yeah, I know, not like yours - in the past my asthma only ever appeared if I had the flu. Now it's every cold day. I'm very relieved about Gemma, and it's liquid you just put on their food, thank heavens, not pills. Mind you, since I started putting their pills in minced beef they all line up waiting for them. I don't think Gemma will make her 14th birthday, praying that I'm wrong though. |

Yeah, a Cuz is softer, all right. The Pack chews those feet off or rips out chunks of rubber and then swallows them. Lots of worries and lots of hydrogen peroxide to get the offending party to throw the pieces back up. Although the dogs love Cuzes, we finally stopped buying them...
How cold is it there now, GF?

The last 5 mornings have been 1.3, 1.7, -1.4, 0.5 and 0.3. Frosts and some fog. Daytime between 15 and 17C.
I'll keep an eye on Roo's Cuz and if he damages it I'll just have to take it off him,. Last edited by Goldfields; June 28th, 2013 at 12:55 AM. |

How does Roo like the cold?

So far our feet are intact also. CsqU4r3d - maybe your Cuz has stinky feet??lol
GF, your high is the same as our high and it's summer here! Today I think we're actually going to warm up to about 17 or 19. We don't get that cold at night anymore though. But hold on Vancouver, apparently by Sunday we'll warm up near the ocean to about 28 and 30+ farther inland (by me...) We'll have to turn the air conditioner on for the pups I think. |

Knew you'd laugh, Hazel. It's still too cold for my asthma to cope with. Got up really wheezing this morning because there was a fog. Roo loves it, he's as tough as an old boot. I find he still plays in his water bowl no matter how cold it gets and he loves rolling on wet grass. The breed does well in your cold countries, apparently they go nuts in the snow. Hey, saw a great collar that would so suit the little devil. Lime green(his colour) with Terrorist written on it in black. The shelties do believe he's a doggy terrorist, they won't go out the side for me now if he is there, I have to shift Roo and Jarrah out to the front first. And all he is doing is running frantically from sheltie to sheltie saying "Love me! Love me. Play with me!", grovelling in front of them. Can't get the collar incidentally, it's in Denmark and language is the barrier.
DD, are you saying your summer day is only going to be 17C? What is your highest temp. usually? I take it you don't get up to 45C? If you say no I'm coming to live there. |

Oh, heck, GF! We don't even get to 45C here and DD is usually cooler than here in the interior in summer! Should I make you a reservation?

He is a very confident dog, Lord of all he surveys. I wanted him primarily as a guard dog and he'll certainly be that. If anything startles him outside at night he doesn't bolt for the house, he fronts up baying like a banshee with his hackles on end.

He's a confident lil feller, that's for sure. Well, not so little anymore, I guess.

Hah, Roo is so different than Lupa. She's all bossy and tough with Nikki, but she's a big coward. If Halo starts barking at the fence first Lupa runs to the house, then if she decides it is safe she runs the fence.
Hazel, quite trying to steal my guests! She said she was coming here!!! Last week the average temp would have been 19 but we were a bit low at 17. It's been a cool spring into summer. Today though it is very warm. Not sure how warm it is, but we may hit 33 by Monday, which is hot for Vancouver. Parts of our interior will get into the 40's though. That's normal for the Okanagan area, but since Vancouver is on the ocean we tend to be a bit cooler. |

Well, we quit Obedience today, I took him over but didn't train. Apart from having to finish soon due to the hospital stay and recuperation,I think he was too bored staying in the class he was in. Found out that the person who okays graduations into higher classes is away till (the end of ?) September. I was not waiting for his return. The one thing that is bound to annoy me happened too, I was standing talking to Goober's owner and another friend who has a GSD girl that Roo likes when one of the instructors walked by. She heard Goober growling and straight away turned and stared at me and told us to get those dogs apart. She didn't like it when I told her he was not growling at Roo, or that Goober's owner promptly backed me up, saying those two are friends. I thought she had a nerve, we weren't in class, we were socialising and little Goober was just intimidated by the GSD's size. I won't have Roo being treated like the big, bad cattle dog. Especially when he's innocent. LOL. Yes, I will miss the friends and their dogs, but hey, I had a 30 mile drive in there in pea soup fog this morning, so next Sunday, when instead I am snug in my cosy bed, then no, I doubt if I'll miss it.

Aw, that's too bad, GF! How far are you from Goober's house? Any chance of arranging play dates for Goober and Roo?

That's what I was thinking too Hazel. It would be nice if they could visit, halfway maybe even. Stupid trainer eh GF! Sometimes they think they're all that and more.
Fog, we get so much fog here in the fall and spring. Ugh. |

I live 17 miles from Goober, but I won't arrange anything just yet. My knee is getting worse so I should concentrate on getting what work I can done about this place. It'd not as if Roo is an only child that needs the socialising, what he needs is to learn to behave with the shelties. LOL. I've been thinking some instructors are power tripping a bit, which is a shame. I had a long chat to a more senior instructor and she knows I wasn't the only discontented member there. I think it shows in how often people are absent. I hadn't missed a class but others certainly do.
Said goodbye to the ram today and it's so nice to notice which ewes do look in lamb. Fortunately for me, my friend who loans us the rams is living temporarily over the road from us and agreed to come help after work if I can't manage any difficult lambings. |

Yeah, but imagine drinking someone else's bath water. LOL. His puppyhood does seem to have flashed by. I miss the little baby Roo, but the big handsome one's not so bad.
