First vet trip

It's Morgans first time to the vet on Tuesday to get her Rabies shot and a micro chip (everything else was done at the kennel).

Can anyone share the average prices for check ups, rabies and micro-chips. Since I've only owned cats in the past I'm unfamiliar with how much dog owners are charged.

Thanks.

It should be about the same as you would pay for your cats,micro-chip is micro-chip no matter how big the animal...

I know that vets in Toronto are pretty pricey, so shop around! You'll likely find different prices in different areas. A regular exam here is about 35$. For shots, flea preventative etc, it goes according to the weight of the animal. The prices for a Great Dane will be very much higher than for a Chihuahua.

Rabies shots are only required (by law) every three years, and many of us here do not believe in annual booster shots for the other canine diseases. Of course, dogs also need heartworm tests and preventatives.

You'll be surprised how quickly they install the microchip. I took Bob back to the SPCA to have it done. They took him into a room closed the door, and 20 seconds later they came out and said it was done! I actually checked the back of his neck when we left to make sure they had done something!
Question: I got Bob three months ago from the SPCA. Obviously I don't have any history about him. How do I go about getting him shots for everything, when I don't know the last time he had them? I hope you can't overdose on these shots? Can you?
