Really gross diarrhea found in my kitchen...

Umm soo one of my kitties must be not feeling so well. I was wondering if anyone knew if any of the following things could trigger bloody, mucous disgustingly gross diarrhea... it may have been vomit but really imagine melted chocolate ice cream and the smell of ...death.

1. I let them try a new flavour of wet food AND dry food (just to test it out not as their full diet) .. both were duck based. Evo 95% Duck and Fromm Surf & Turf.

2. 'They' stole a pancake from me this morning when I was making breakfast.....

3. Someone stole a tea bag out of the garbage and ate some of it and licked it. I am not sure if it was decaf or not but I think it was just regular ol' Tetley tea.

It was pretty much HORRIBLE. I've been checking everyones butts and so far everyones rearends look clean with no 'evidence'....

the litterbox was only across the room but they went on a small rug in the kitchen.

I don't know who it was at all =/ It likely wasn't Maxwell, Jack, Kasey, Tessie or the kittens because they were in my room at the time it must have happened. Basically I came up stairs, then about 5 minutes later decided I wanted some icecream and went back down and discovered the mess...

HELP! It was really really WEIRD!!!! My cats have all been doing so well I'd hate for someone to start having issues

I would say probably not from the pancake not a whole lot of stuff in there to upset a tummy

They would steal the tea bag cuz it sorta smells like catnip Duffy likes the smell of tea too, though she's never gone after a bag, not sure what the end result would be...

Have any of them ever had duck before? not neccessarily from these brands but any kind

Was there any hairball evidence in the mess?

Kathryn, sometimes vomit will look like runny poop,if it was runny poop,I am sure there would be leftover evidence

No hairball in the mess.. I'm pretty sure it wasn't barf it was just too gross and stuff...

I've never really fed them duck before. I kinda was like grossed out about it a bit but figured they might like to try it. The thing was the duck was really watery. So I'm thinking maybe it was that.

My mom just called as I was typing this and said it is Tessie that is sick.. Missy keeps torturing her and literally scaring the poop out of her! Does that make any sense? It could be a combination of things right? I don't like Missy to begin with so I'll just give her to my grandmom if she keeps it up. She is so mean and miserable and basically makes it her job to make everyone else miserable.

Awww poor Tessie . If Tessie is very stressed because of Missy, then it could cause tummy upset.

I didn't see anything in the list that would cause diarrhea, unless a cat ate a large bit of caffeinated tea bag..

She's feeling better now.. Missy is still being a though! Missy might have to go on a nice vacation to grandmoms if she doesn't behave!!! Her sister Holly is there who is seriously like half the size of Missy

Your mention of EVO immediately caught my attention. I've been having some kitty soft-poop issues, which seem associated with feeding EVO as a dietary change from lower-quality "junk food". Other high-end canned foods are also contributing to the softness (I'm trying to find a couple they really like), but EVO seems to be more potent in this area. I posted a thread on this but nobody ever replied to it. I'm wondering if the high protein concentration might be a bit "too much" for a young or chronically-ill cat's digestive system. http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=59242

I read on another forum that other cat (and dog) owners had also experienced similar problems when changing their animals' diets to this particular brand. So maybe there's something to it. But it is also such great food!

In the case of the canned Evo 95% duck that Kathryn is talking about, it's more likely to be the high fat content that could be an issue for some kitties. The protein levels are actually quite moderate.

As for the Evo kibble, it's hard to say what could be going on there. I've certainly heard many people have cats with incredibly stinky poops for the first month or so that they're feeding it. There are an awful lot of ingredients in it that a cat could be reacting to. I'm not a fan of the fact that they use turkey AND chicken AND herring AND eggs, along with other questionable stuff like potatoes, apples and alfalfa sprouts. But if someone HAD to feed dry, Evo is certainly better than most of the other options.
