ack! toxic kitties!

a quick toxic-kitty rant....

So I got my cats a bag of Core (Wellness) since the store was out of the usual food I buy, and they were having a special on the Core. My cats have sampled it before, and they LOVED it. so, I got some....

holy moly those are some super stinky cats now!

every time they use the litter box, I MUST scoop immediately. is it just me, or my cats, or does anyone else notice this w/ the Core food? I'm not kidding, there is NOT enough Febreeze, scented candles, lysol, or baking soda in the world to help with that STANK.

they should call it SUPER STINKY POO FOOD. ick. I'm going back to Chicken Soup for them. it's not as good as Core, but at least I can scoop the box every other day rather than 2-3x a day.

I bought a bag of Wellness Core for Jasper when I was trying to do elimination diets for Jasper's allergies and diarrhea. It helped his allergies, but still had super soft, stinky stools. I switched to Orijen and he still has stinky stools, they are not as bad and they are well formed.

Ewww! Gross eh? Especially if they don't cover it!!

I had to my cat off Orijen, for the same reasons, and the gas...he passed gas every time he was in the litter box, big time gas, almost human sounding...which is funny coming from a 7lbs cat!! Poor guy! I had to switch Dazy off Orijen too, her new food makes poop cleaning so much better!!!

Seems to be a common thing with cats when switched to a lower carb dry food (Innova EVO gets the same reaction). It usually subsides after a while, but I can't tell you how long that "while" is (for some it's just a couple weeks, others seem to be stinky for a couple months). If you can find a way to add probiotics (do you give your cats any canned food?) to their diet, that could help.

She was on Orijen, now on Horizon's, its easier on her guts, altho I love Orijen I found her poops so stinky...always formed but gross to clean up, and if we were outside while she went, we'd have to move due to the smell, no problem now. She goes once a day, formed and not stinky.

How much are you feeding and what? How much does Nova weigh?

I find with grain free foods - the exact amount to feed sits on a thin line, even just a little too much food in one day affects them.

Sorry jessi76 .

Sorry too, jessi, we are so off topic......

Nova weighs I think around 2.5 lbs and is eating about a little under 3/4 a cup a day, three times daily, we feed the Orijen puppy all breed and size formula.

We use to feed our Border Collie Fromm Four Star, but found her poops were stinky and messy.

It is funny how the cats had the same reaction as the dogs!

I'm feeding my gang Wellness, well still in the transition stage, and their poop smells to high heaven. They each go at least twice a day too. I wish I was that regular. Heck, I'm thinking about eating that stuff myself!

OMG so small...LOL! Mines 75lbs and eats 3 cups a day. I can't even imagine putting 1/2 of 3/4 of a cup in a bowl. LOL!

If the poops are firm, then you are ok, if they are soft, I'd cut back a bit - altho that would end up being like 12 kibbles. Sorry for laughing, it just seems so small. If they are firm but stinky, it's the super rich food.

Its a good food for sure, but it doesn't suit every dog.

The new food I feed, I feed the same amount...3 cups per day. Everything about it - gas and poop related are much better.

Pubert my cat was eating 1/2 of a cup of Origin and passing gas all the time, and eating like he was starving...now he's much better on the food with grain. He eats Innova.

Altho, it is pretty bad when your dogs or kitties poo is so strong you can't even live with it for a second....

Stinky poop sucks and boy if I had a kitty that stinks that bad when using the box, I would surely barf

As for Nova, yep she's tiny, but holy a big personialty, she has more spunk than a JRT, but is still very tiny.

I would love a big dog, but hubby went small, still love her......

For sure small dog with big dog traits....

Jessi, as for stinky poop, I am sure poor kitties can't stand it either and it comes from their bums........poor things
