Anything I can do to help soothe teething pains?
Hello everyone,
I have been incredibly busy and mostly lurking recently, but I have a question: Sparky is going through losing his baby teeth and growing his adult teeth. He seems to be a little discomforted and I noticed he doesn't eat his dry food as much, only if I watered it a bit and its soft. Also, when he bites on his toys I hear an occasional whimper. He seems warmer to touch, but no fever, and tries to stick his face into colder spots (I found him with his face on my grocery bag with fries in it, so it was prtty cold bag, he was just leaning on it with his face, as if to cool it off...I have been freezing his kong, but I wonder if there is anything else I can do to help ease this on him? |

They actually make toys that have water in them that you can freeze for teetheing puppies to chew on. Rubber toys are good for teething too..
I was a bad mommy though.. I took a rag and wet it a little and froze it and then let him chew on the cold rag... People told me not too because they said he would forever want to chew on rags...but he doesnt now...

No you were not a bad mommy.I did the same with my dogs as pups...And none of mine became rag chewers...... Some pups have a harder time than others with the teething. You can try the washcloth...Soak it,roll it(I sprinkled a bit of garlic) then freeze it.But when you give it to Sparky, make sure you are there to watch.Once it starts to get softer, take it away. Not sure if they have anything for puppies to put on the gums like they do for babies.

I always bought the rope tug toys, dipped them in chicken or beef broth and froze that, I still do keep some in the freezer for those hot days or anything I thought Brina had a fever........

You can also try icecubes......helps with the chewing and the gum pain.

I agree with mona_b's washcloth idea or else if you have an old pair of jeans cut up some strips of denim and then wet, knot & freeze.....they are quite durable.
