Update on Bobby...

We had our first visit with a Vet for acupuncture today - had to go and hour and a half up-Island but wow - she is good!

She found some problem areas and he had his first needles today - she figures it will take a while so we're to go back next week. She worked today on his front legs - they were hot up the inside of his legs and she says she will do some research to find a Chinese herb that will help him. When we go back next week she will have developed a plan for him - so I now have new hope!

Wonder of wonders - when I told her I stopped vaccinating him she agreed that it was the best thing to do!

Just yesterday he started to come out of his latest bad spell and I was worried that she wouldn't find anything - no worries - she identified some of his meridians that need clearing so we'll see how things develop.

I'll be sure to post follow-ups!

Thanks for the acupuncture suggestions too. As it happens, the Kinesiologist working with Bobby suggested acupuncture at his last session too - so off we went..

It's a pretty good feeling to have hope again

In the interest of people who might be searching the forum for advice/info on acupuncture, what are Bobby's problems that you are trying to resolve with the acupuncture?

As someone who suffered for years with acute/chronic back problems, I can vouch for it on a human level and truly hope Bobby finds relief from whatever ails him too

Bobby's problems: (This is the list I prepared for the Acupuncture Vet).

- auto-immune system is compromised
- eyesight comes and goes
- dysplasia in his right hip
- disc presses on his spinal cord
- food allergies/sensitivities
- Arthritis
- sometimes goes 12 hours or more before peeing
- back goes out in pelvis area
- limps on his left front leg – source?
- drinks very little water
- foods we've tried: kibble – grain free, with grain, High protein, low protein, fish based, poultry based, duck, lamb and rice, bison., Hills, Purina HA, Natural Balance vegetarian (currently on this last one)
o raw
o home cooked
o supplements – Serrapeptase, Q10, acidophilus, chlorella,
o salmon oil, kelp, others that I can’t remember – now on:
 acidophilus, salmon oil, glucosamine, chlorella

- now has trouble getting out of the car – He has to jump down from the seat
- sometimes has trouble climbing up onto the couch and into the car
- mostly walks very, very slowly when we are out – other times he
Will trot and/or run a bit
- head tilts to the right from time to time
- always walks with his head level or down towards the ground

- from time to time he will cough as is he needs to clear his throat - may last for a day or two
- the skin on his stomach and between his back legs turns a purple colour from time to time.

We had to cancel our Acupuncture session on Thursday - the fog was so thick it wouldn't have been safe to drive - so we go this coming Thursday.

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone - we both need them!

I'll try to post more often! I find I'm so tuned into Bobby that sometimes I just don't get to do other things - especially on his bad days! Getting both dogs out for exercise is a trial at times - Bobby is so slow and Amber so fast - totally opposite ends of the pole!

I did get a neat picture the other day though so I'll get it off my camera and post it - so sweet...

And here I was thinking - I really should post an update! Good news for sure - after the first day when I thought I'd have to take him to emergency, he has improved considerably! His face has softened and he is moving much, much better! He even plays with Amber in the back yard for a few minutes now.. I'm reluctant to get excited because he has had dramatic improvements in the past but they haven't lasted. Our next acupuncture is this coming Thursday so I'm hoping for even more improvements after that!

The acupuncturist suggested changing him to cooked food - very gradually - so I've been mixing a bit of cooked ground beef, some steamed brocolli and steamed carrots into his yukky kibble - so far so good! Tomorrow or Sunday I'll remove more of the kibble so by the end of next week he will be on real food..

He still limps on his front leg when he first gets up either from sleeping or just resting but it goes away after a short while so I'm hoping his next session will make a bigger dent in that.

We go for his next session this coming Thursday so I promise I'll post a follow up after that!

Thanks for asking.. he is such a sweet boy..

That is wonderful news .

I actually just noticed in your sig that Bobby is only four . I actually thought he was older . Hopefully he will continue to improve and will be able to live like a happy, healthy young dog soon .
