Dog food problems.

Well Candi is not doing to well with the wellness. Her stool is really soft and that makes it hard to clean the yard. and see doesn't seem to be likeing it anymore. She steals BJ's Iams and doesn't eat hers. I'm thinking of switching her but we don't have a lot of good foods around here. I found something called Nutros. Does anyone know anything about it? Here is what I found when I looked it up. Does it look like a good food?

it says "Nutros CHOICE ADULT, LAMB & RICE is America's top selling lamb and rice dog food. No ground corn, wheat, sorghum, poultry, fish, milk, soya or by-products are included. Therefore, dogs that exhibit food intolerance or allergies to these proteins, or just have poor skin and coat, can benefit from this formula. Nutro adds plenty of sunflower oil to guarantee healthy skin and a lustrous coat, as well as glucosamine and chondroitin to maintain healthy joints."

It's about half way down this page. http://www.scottveterinaryclinic.co....ood.html#Adult

Thanks for the help.

Layla used to be on Nutro, it was ok, but not great. She shed like crazy on it, and pooped about three times more than she should have been. Candi might do well on it, but it really did not work well for me.
Have you tried Solid Gold?

Solid gold is not sold where I live. It seems like the only brands sold around here are eukanuba, iams, science diet, and the like. This one little mom and pop store is the only one I could find that sold something other than those. They have all those but wellness, and nutro too, but that is it.

white fish and sweet potato because she has some skin and allergy problems. I'v heard from a couple people that some dogs don't like the taste of wellness, she has proved to be one of them.

She should like the fishy one though... I looked on the Solid Gold site and found a few listings for Houston- they even have two distributers down there... Try it out, but call first because their lists can be out of date. (I just found any Houston zip code on the net, so if you put yours in, it might be closer.)

Problem is I'm not actully in Houston, I'm about 45 mins. outside of it. I'm really in a small place called Kingwood, and can go into humble. But there isn't a whole lot in these areas and going into houston just for dog food isn't thesable. I work and go to school in kingwood so I never go into houston very often. And depending on what time and day I go I can hit traffic up to 2 hours just to get to the outskirts of houston. And don't forget it takes about an hour to drive from one sid of houston to another so if it's on the south side I'm going to be driving forever.

It may take some time to find a place that will do it, but you might be able to find a pet store that will deliver it. Or you could order it online:

Price is a big concern for me. I'm pretty broke. Delivery is going to cost way too much. I did find one place that sells it in kingwood, but it's a vet clinic and their price is rediculous. I just don't think I can afford solid gold.

You couldn't go once every few months? Like buy a chunk? Otherwise you're really stuck, unless you can get a dog food store near you to order it in for you...

Natural Balance

How about Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance? It has great ingredients. If you have a Petco nearby they carry it.

Do you have a Costco near you. If so try the Kirkland Series Chicken and Rice or Lamb and Rice. No corn or soya in it. It is the same formula as Diamond makes for Giant breeds which is better than their other Diamond foods they also make Chicken Soup for the pet lover or something like that which is real good quality I think better than Solid Gold. But the costco food is really really reasonable in fact down right cheap. I have cut my food bill to a quarter of what it was. I used Solid Gold but Buddy had the worst gas he did like the Chicken Soup but too expensive for his size and my budget.

Thanks everyone. It's great to see you back mastifflover! We've missed you! Nope no costco around here, the closest we have is sam's club, and I don't have a card there. Sorry mastifflover but you didn't post the link, do you think it could post it for me?

Wouldn't the food get stale even if in a container if you had it for a few months? I never tested to see if it gets stale but I always imagined it would so I never bought that much at one time. Unfortunetly driving to the other side of houston tends to be a time issue. with work and school and regualr errends for both tomas and I it's just too hard.

i'm going to go down to the animal clinic and see if maybe they can at least tell me of somewhere else that sells solid gold, they may know of somewhere. If not I might just pay the price and buy it there. We'll see.

hey mastifflover, is this the food you were talking about?
http://www.flintriver.com/
it looks pretty good, and they do free shipping! I just might use this. What does everyone think? And what about their cat foods? Do they look good quality? I could just order both Candi's and Jasmine's food all at the same time.
Here is the page I looked at with the dog and cat foods listed.

You have a petsmart there. I understand that you can order petfood online and have it delivered/picked up at your local petsmart. Petsmart sells Biljac and Blue, which aren't bad US brands. Also, petco does the same thing I understand, and they have Dick Van Pattens, which is super premium, but cheaper than solid gold. I feed the duck and potato and it's AMAZING.

Mastiff suggested Kirkland brand at costco, but that is also made by Diamond in the US, so if you see Diamond dog food, it's also good. Castor & Pollux (petco) seem to have good ingredients> Eagle Pack (Petco should have), and Sensible Choice Natural Blend Holistic are good, and have good incredients (also petco).

I'v been to most of the places on your list raingirl but never seen any good dog foods plus I don't go into most of them (like just puppies) because they all sell dogs and cats which I don't approve of and won't support. I used to always buy my dog food at petsmart, but have never seen anything but the junk food there (this is when I was feeding iams). The problem around here seems that everyone thinks that the junk foods are good, like iams, science diet, and eukanuba. I had a sales woman almost shove science diet down my throat at petsmart.

Ones like Just puppies make me sick. Just puppies doesn't sell anything but puppies, not food, not leashes, nothing but poor little sick puppies. And all of the exotic places don't sell dog and cat related stuff, only exotics like snakes, sugar gliders, walabies, and the like (nothing is illegal in this area, not even tigers and lions).
