Is that a new breed? Mixed breed?
Never heard of a Borderdoodle. I'd hate to see what a Dobadoodle looks like. |

Borderdoodle!?
Jeez. Actually it looks to me simply like a clipped standard poodle with a very long tail, so I guess no prize for me! I never would have guessed the BC part.

daisy,these doodles are mixed breeds
Labradoodle.....Borderdoodle and who knows even a Cockadoodle...There are a number of doodles. These are all mixed with a Standard Poodle. They call them "designer" breeds. And sell them for a fortune. And people buy them Go figure.

My neighbor just spent 1,000 dollars out of her tax return on a Rottweiler and a Standardd Poodle mix puppy. Its not the cutest thing in the world...Here is his big muscular dog with all this frill and fringe on it. I think designer dogs are a horrible idea being they cause fashion trends. Just look at what happened after 101 Dalmations.

cross breeding
Speaking of cross-breeding...what do you get when you cross a bull-dog with a shih-tzu? This one shouldn't be hard to figure out!
Before I got Milo (my "border-doodle") I researched dogs, specifically poodles, for about 3 months. A Canadian web-site said that there were over 10,000 labs up for adoption in 2004 but only about 100 poodles. I couldn't find any Airdale, Poodle, or Wheaton rescue services in BC or Alberta...there just weren't any. I agree that there is a non-shedding fad going on right now but my "border-doodle" is exactly what I was looking for. I have his family pictures going back to his grandparents and know without a doubt he did not come from a puppy mill (there wouldn't be one in Grand Forks anyway!). Don't alot of purebred dogs have more medical problems anyway? Enough of defending my choice. |

Actually not anymore. With responsible breeders doing genetic testing and health testing prior to mating, their litters are becoming healthier and healthier. There's no excuse for buying a mutt when there are so many mutts available for rescuing.

mutts
I definitely would have preferred buying a mutt, which is why every two or three days for 4 months I searched Petfinders, our local Buy and Sell, various pet shelters, and the Vancouver Sun for a dog I was interested in. I was just not interested in the regular shepherd, rottie, pittbull, or lab cross. I absolutely agree that people should look first to the local dog pounds or shelters.

See when I say "buy" I mean from a pet store or a back yard breeder. Getting a dog from a rescue, although you technically buy it, is more "adopting" in my mind...

Thats crazy. All they want is the dogs crossed with Poodle, so they don't shed. Then they sell them for way too much, calling them "borderdoodles" or anything "doodle". They don't call them mutts, or mixed breeds which is actually what they are.

borderdoodles
Well, I can't believe that I have a "designer" dog...never thought I would buy into it! But I just bought a lovely borderdoodle because of his intelligence, non-shedding hair, and everything else. Couldn't find anything through Petfinders or other dog locators and didn't want another deerhound after having them for 15 years. I am thrilled with Milo, and so are my kids. I think the name "borderdoodle" (or anything that ends with doodle) sounds the same as our "loonie" or "toonie" but, hey, I have a lovely dog.

I think the most important thing is that you are happy with your dog, and the dog comes from a reputable source.
Doodle I hope you and your kids enjoy Milo.

It's rare that they come completely non-shedding though. That's why so many doodles of different types end up in shelters now...
