Talking Newbie!

Hi all! My name is Sarah. I have two dogs -- Mandy (GSD mix) and Nova (Yellow Lab).

I'm not really sure what to say about myself ...

I also have a forum about dogs, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link or not ... I don't want to get in trouble -- especially on my first post!

This is a great site, though, and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome to the board!! You have to post some pics of your furries!!!

(BTW I think you would get in trouble because there is no "self-promotion" allowed here and they're pretty strict about it...)

^^ Haha that's understandable (about the self-promotion).

Anyway, here are my pup-a-roos!

This is Nova, my yellow Lab puppy. (These pictures are a couple months old)

DOB: February 26, 2005
Weight: 48 lbs (as of August 19)
Likes: FOOD, treats, playing with ANYONE, sleeping, going for car rides, trips to the pet store, playing in her kiddy pool, and going to work with me.
Dislikes: Getting in trouble and when Mandy doesn't want to play.

This is Mandy, my White German Shepherd mix.

DOB: January 12, 1998
Weight: 57 lbs (& she's on a diet)
Likes: Treats, playing with her sister (Nova), sleeping, going for walks, car rides, trips to the pet store, going to work with me, watching the squirrels outside, and trying to eat lizards lodged in between the screen and the window.
Dislikes: Big things or noisy things moving, not getting any table scraps, and having to sleep on HER bed (instead of mine).

So cute!!! At least you have the ears to tell them apart easily... (Sometimes I go to bed with one dog on the bed and they switch during the night, just to drive me nuts- mine are almost the same except the eyes and the size...)

I misread this-

I read "Dislikes: Getting into trouble" and I was thinking, "What kind of puppy is THAT??" LOL

Nova's color is getting a little darker but still at a quick glance it is hard to tell ... especially since right now they are the same height, although Nova isn't full grown. Another way we tell them apart is their tails. Mandy has a very bushy tail that doesn't match her body, while Nova's tail has short hair like the rest of her coat. And Mandy's tail is constantly up (she's a dominant dog) while Nova's is always down. Plus Nova's pigment is pink, while Mandy's is black.

Also, Mandy actually has Border Collie-like ears (rose ears). They fold back except when she is alert, so sometimes the ears aren't a good reference to tell them apart if the lighting isn't good!

Nova usually sleeps in her crate, so I don't have that problem with the dogs switching! And Mandy usually gets kicked off the bed because ...well, the diet she's on makes her fart a lot! And she's not allowed on the bed anyway ... unfortunately we didn't exactly raise her right and she has a lot of bad habits. :/ With Nova I'm making sure that doesn't happen, though. She's graduated Puppy Class and is going into obedience class in a couple weeks, and in a month or so we will start Puppy Agility!

And she doesn't get into trouble, haha! Sometimes she's just too hyper in the middle of the night -- actually this happened about 30 minutes ago -- and she wants to play SO bad but she'll wake everyone up. So I have to lay her on her side in the submissive exercise and she looks VERY ashamed! She always has this look like "I'M SO SORRY MOMMY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME!" on her face whenever I have to calm her down.

Mandy looks like a Bull Terrier mix, to me.

Anyway, welcome!

Thanks, everyone!

Kariia - Maybe she's a GSD/Bull Terrier mix? She probably has some kind of terrier or bully breed in her, as her skin is spotted, and I usually see only terriers/bully breeds with spotted skin (and not spotted fur). ... The shelter told us she was a Fox Terrier mix (she was 2 mo. when we got her), and that she'd be about 25-30 lbs. Turns out she's twice the size! We figured 25-30 lbs was okay since we had a dachshund at the time and wanted a dog around the same size!
