male cat defecating in living area daily
Our male cat has been defecating in our kitchen and living room almost daily since we moved into our home in December last year. the other cats use the litter boxes fine ,and he uses them for urinating, so what could be the problem? If you have any suggestions , I'd love to hear them. We have two small children, so we need a solution.

Female cat defecating in house
I have the same problem - only the cat is female. I have 3 cats and 3 litter boxes, but it seems she has decided in the last year she doesn't want to share litter boxes with the others so she poops in the basement - in the same vicinity as the litter boxes. For awhile she was pooping in the tub every day.
My question is - once a cat is dirty this way - can they ever be persuaded back to the litter box? ! I love my cats and can't conceive of getting rid of them but this is too much to bear. |

Our 10 year old cat seems to do that too. She stays in one room and goes back and forth between that room and the bathroom where her litter boxs is. She seems to use the floor... where ever there is clothing to use the washroom rather than to walk to the bathroom.. its really gross. sometimes she uses the box though..
were thinking maybe she does this when the box is too dirty for her liking.

Cat behaviour can be complex,
but sometimes the solutions are simple, here are 2 very important things to consider... 1-Make sure the litter boxes are cleaned daily. CHANGE THE CAT LITTER COMPLETELY once a week. Cat's hate to use the litter box when it's too smelly. 2-Cats often desire privacy when they poop....so put your litter box in an area that's private. Hope this helps Batcat |
