Bone tumor

Hi,
I just lost my older cat to renal disease after 3 months, we gave her medication and sub Q fluids but she got worse and passed away two weeks ago. Last week when I went to the vet to pick up her ashes I brought Jazz along to get a check up. We found out that he has a bone tumor on his jaw. He is a 12 year old maine coon cat. My vet took his x-rays to an oncologist and he said he didn't think that the tumor was osteosarcoma but may be benign or plasma cell tumor, but we'd have to get an MRI and a biopsy. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this condition and treatment or what to expect will happen to my cat as the disease progresses.
Thank you for any insight.

I'm sorry for your loss of your cat such a short time ago, and are now faced with a tumor problem with your Maine Coon. I have nothing to add to what you've already done, and sounds like your vet is on top of it. I it is benign. I wish you and Jazz all the best.

I am sorry about the loss of your other pet. The loss of a family member is always difficult.

As bone tumors enlarge, the top concerns are: 1) if it is malignant, then it can metastasize (spread to other parts of the body like the lungs, liver, lymph nodes), 2) as it enlarges, it can interfere with a pet's ability to eat and 3) it can cause pain.

A biopsy and surgical consult with a specialist may be very beneficial to better understand your options. I hope that this helps.

biopsy

Thank you for your reply I am taking Jazz this afternoon to the specialist and I hope he'll take the biopsy today, In which case I'll find out next week some time. I'm just worried because plasma cell tumor is multiple myeloma and that seems to me as bad as osteosarcoma.
I hope I'll come back with good news, but I'm very worried.

Great news

Just heard back from the specialist and the biopsy report came back as no evidence of cancer. Seems he has a bone infammation of sorts. It doesn't need to be remove as of now but he'll go back in a month and have more x-rays to determine the size of the tumor and wether it has grown. If not they'll just leave it. I am so relieved.

I am so happy for you . You didn't need any bad news so soon after loosing your last kitty.

Maine Coons are such beautiful cats, any chances on getting a pic ?
