Canidae Platinum

anything here look like an allergy? Mister has been on a raw meat and bone and offal only diet for a few months now and thrived but with him licking the kid, we wanted to supplement with a kibble of some sort. i accidently ended up with a bag of platinum so Mister still gets his raw meals 4 days a week but 3 days a week he gets kibble. since starting this he has gotten the itchies back. ive fed alone- lamb, loads of chicken, beef, pork, talapia, salmon (cooked gutted), egg, deer, turkey, corning game hen with no allergic reaction. rosemary and sage are frequently part of what i cook for us and he gets as a treat such as the left overs from our chicken are used in his training. corn has shown no allergy but ive not fed him large amounts of it. i have a salsa he digs that has corn in it though.... Jeffrey throws it at him sometimes.... i dont cook enough rice to know. i guess i cook it up and feed mornign feedings and go back to the raw thing??

any ideas?

THANKS!!

-ashley

This is fairly far down in the ingredients list to be of much concern but I hate it when they do this anyway. This "Saccharomyces Cerevisiae " is yeast.

Rice would be unusual but not unheard of. Ceili can't eat too much of it without getting indigestion.

Yes, occassionally dogs are allergic to rice. Why don't you try one of the grain gree kibbles?

Why would you want to add yeast to your dogs food? I think you are just asking for problems.

Have you fed any of the meats you mentioned cooked or only raw? It's not unheard of for a dog to be fine with a meat when it's raw, but have problems when it's cooked.

rainbow- if i add yeast to his raw meals (the raw being base line nutrition thats not an allergy) and he stays itchy, i can make sure whatever foods we feed him do NOT have yeast in it right?

pitgrrl- o_0 seriously?

Brewer's yeast, is an inexpensive way to deliver extra B Complex in a diet. It's often suggested for dogs fed raw or homemade. B complex is also found in liver and green leafy vegetables (or one can purchase the supplements themselves but it can be rather pricey for some).

Nutritional yeast contains the B vitamins and lots of minerals.

You are not serious I hope. Please go to the health food store and get the nutritional yeast. Even brewers yeast is not as good as nutritional yeast.

In case you might want to read up more on B complex (essential vitamins for us humans as well) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_vitamins .

Brewer's yeast is also known as nutritional yeast (thanks rainbow) and is a very good source of B complex.

Want4rain, what you're using is baker's yeast and does the opposite . It depletes the body of the B complex vitamins.

Brewers yeast is one of the nutritional yeasts but there are others (I think three) that are better. I know tortula is one but I forget the others. I've been trying to google it but for some reason for some reason can't access their website right now.

K, just did a bit of research. There seem to be two types of brewers yeast; active (used to make beer and wine) and deactivated. It's the deactivated kind that is closest to nutritional yeast . Active yeasts continue to grow in the intestines and deplete the body of nutrients.

Brewer's yeast is a by product of beer production and nutritional yeast is from the same strain but grown on molasses (molasses, by the way, is another good source of b complex).

Thanks, LP ....I still keep getting "page cannot be displayed" when I try to access google.

Brewers yeast also has a more bitter taste than nutritional yeast but I don't know if that matters to dogs.

I thought the stuff in your fridge was baking yeast? And, if it is that means NO.

Forgive me if I'm getting my details wrong W4R but isn't it less expensive for you to feed raw than kibble?

If so, then all of this this should be a non-issue right? You'll exhaust the free bag and go back to raw.

Or am I missing something ?

sorry, that wasnt RIGHT AWAY. also, i wasnt really clear, i meant can i take the stuff out of the fridge to 'kill(??)' it and THEN use it?? then it wouldnt USE nutrition while living in the gut.

MumX3, Chris and i decided since we have failed miserably to get Mister to NOT lick Jeffreys face at every opportunity that we would supplement with kibble. we have really put an effort at it, Mister just cant help it.

Wanted, I don't think ~ but I''m willing to be corrected ~ there will be any difference in Mister's mouth flora within about 1-2 minutes of Mister eating kibble v. eating raw.
