Seriously, it wasn't "old". Not more than 15 years or so. The guy who put it in was just cheap, and would only pay for softwood...

What a great house! And with such character too. Is there still a bell?

Since you're getting that work done for the basement maybe you can put in some new flower beds!

Ok, reno update!!!

First of all, some of you know the saga of my destroyed front yard. Here is my yard/garden during the foundation repair. Note minimal damage:

Here is my yard/garden after the guys with the gigantormous backhoe came in to install a new well pump. Seriously?? I mean...seriously, was this necessary??? We are a bit about it.

All that to go from this (hateful, needed-to-be-primed-at-least-once-a-week-PITA-noisy- well pump that lost water pressure if you tried to do a load of laundry right after taking a shower ):

To this (lovely, silent provider of never-ending water supply):

Ok, now THIS is exciting stuff. We got our carpet floors installed last week. The transformation is crazy. Even MORE crazy when I look back at the really old pics, like from when we did our first tour of the house before we bought it...

So here is our "loft" area, before (aaak! The purple! The fake wood panelling! The nasty carpet tiles! THE PURPLE!!!):

here it is, during:

Here it is now:

Another before:

and after:

What the heck happened Bendyfoot? Poor garden...I see the pup is investigating the premises.

Ah in no time everything will be back to normal. Don't worry about it.

And thanks for re-homing the floors. After serving man for 15 years, it is only right to find them a good retirement home.

I have to admit that you had to kind of squint a lot to see the potential in this house when we first looked at it...but underneath all the was a really cool space with amazing potential...good "bones"...

Ouch!! on the garden and yard, but great job on the inside of the house! The yard will recover--even with 8 dogs, we've managed to rehab the yard from construction damage a few times

You and DW have much better taste in decor than hazel does.

A backhoe to install a well pump in your basement ? Are they at least gonna help fix up the lawn and garden ?

What a lovely job Bendy . I have to admit, I have no taste whatsoever...actually, yes, I do have taste...just no talent to put it all together .

The pump itself is down in the well, that blue thing is just a pressure tank...so they needed to install new pipe from the well (at the left corner of the garden at the front) to the house. But they brought in a serious excavator, not the little utility digger that would have made more sense, considering the pipe was all of a 2" diameter!!! And no, they're NOT going to help fix it, in the eyes of the plumber, it's already "fixed" In fact, they were going to BILL us for it!!! We made it clear that wasn't going to happen. We'll see what happens when we get the bill for the well job this week.

Thanks a million for the complements! Yeah, the neutral tones we picked are warm and cozy but still bright and airy-feeling. That god-awful purple was so frikin' suffocating, and it was EVERYwhere!!!
