Started walking in the evenings
Last year I did a corporate run with my best friend. I don't mind telling you guys, I almost dropped dead! Seriously, I was just so out of shape and really didn't "train" much. But this year, I'm starting early. About the only good thing I like about daylight savings time is it's still light out later.
Yesterday I got home from work, fed the gang and went out and walked around my neighborhood for about 45 minutes. I also bid on a super cute pet stroller on ebay. I don't know if they will all enjoy walking around the neighborhood, but I'm hoping one or two of them do. It's still pretty cool, but when the weather starts getting hot and humid, I may have to buy a little battery operated fan for them. Here's what it looks like:

That's great, AG! I can picture your guys riding in style while you train, too!

Good for you AG! Hubby and I are planning on doing that too. Maybe we can even convince our old girl Sammy she should come for a walk with us!! Love the stroller!

That's great, AG. Unlike walking a kitty on a harness, kitties in the stroller will feel much more secure as they know they are partially hidden. For many kitties that is a great comfort and allows them to enjoy their walks

Thanks guys! I figure may as well take advantage of the added daylight.
L4H, I thought the same. In the stroller, hopefully they will know they are protected and since it has a screen, it will keep out bugs and other icky stuff, like fleas! Melinda, is your cousins stroller similar? How long has she had it? Hazel, heh, I'll take pictures. 14+, I think the more the merrier. It's kind of boring walking by yourself, and having someone, person or human, with you makes it more interesting. I'm super excited to get it. I just hope it's not some flimsy junky thing. That would suck.

she bought it off of ebay two years ago and it looks about the same size, her ragdoll male fits itside it with lots of room, her friend has a smaller one (pink) and finds it a little small for her persian. I'll see if I still have the pic of Kathy's

The only problem in taking my gang to the vet is getting the stroller in and out of my car. lol
Melinda, I just got this on ebay too. It's a really good price and I wanted one big enough for Vlad, since he's the biggest one and I'm thinking the one that may enjoy this the most. But who knows, he might surprise me and hate it.

Ya I always wondered how they would get it in and out of their car too but maybe they had an SUV...
that Vlad will LOVE it! |

ok, just talked to my cousin and this is what she said.
You buy strollers based on the weight of the pet and since Merlin is such a big boy I had to get one that is more for dogs. I love it, it handles really well..look at the front wheels. I suspect it is like a child's stroller. I bought a plastic child's stroller cover to protect my boy in rainy or windy weather....there is that large opening at the front. this is like the one she has, she had no pic on her work computer http://www.dogquality.com/dog-stroll...ller-blue.html |

It also has a little attachment inside so you can attach a leash, so I'm going to get Vlad a better fitting harness and when I take him out, I'll put him in it and attach the leash. I can't wait to get this!

Hi a.g......
have you thought about getting a pedometer?
I found one cheap at Winners (not sure if they have them in states.. like a TJ Max?) for $10.00. I wear it for at least 3 days a week, and one day in the weekend (sometimes i have to go to fancy meetings, and although i love my pink pedometer, it doesn't match the shoes!)... step counting has been really motivational for me (i may have made an excel spreadsheet!). i now try to maximize on the days i wear (helps me regulate my knees)... 14000 steps the other day from dog walking, to and from subway walking, and taking the stairs all day! i have a friend who comes with me in the evenings.... she doesn't have a dog, loves dogs and i have two so it works out (she even walks Monty... the big guy!).... although i know my 2 would love a stroller ride through the hood..... k. |

I walked Monday and yesterday. I think I'll take a break today, since it's likely going to rain all day, and I do have a couple of things to do after work. But, I'm back at it Thursday.

I got mine last year, hubs bought it at canadian tire, what I like about it is that it has a "siren" on it, almost gernade style *L* you pull the pin and man is it loud, guess hubs finally realized brina would be useless in a bear, wolf, coyote or human attack *L*

That's a great idea to have that siren. I'm not walking tonight, it's a rainy day here and I doubt it's going to let up. I think I'll have a look at Target on the way home. Maybe I can find some walking pants on clearance too.

AG, good on you! I wish I could get my hubby to go out walking more often with us (the grrrrls and I that is). We go for much longer walks when he's with us because I'm not getting dragged in different directions, we each get one dog and it's so much more relaxing.

It is more fun walking with some company, that's for sure. I don't really have anybody to go with me, so it will be nice taking one of the kitties to keep me company.
I'm going to be 43 this year, and I am in the worst shape I've ever been in my life. I'm tired of feeling tired all the time.

A great gal like you... you'll have company in no time
put a costume on one of the kitties to keep bad company away Maybe you could make bit of change by walking taking someones doggie along (pre approved by the kitties, of course) dog walking sort of service... sometimes I just make no sense! (HI AG! been a while! )

Otter, where you been?
My neighbors that had a dog moved, and I've only seen 3 people in my building who have dogs, but they walk them themselves.

move to ontario, you can grab brina for a walk , she's use to have one or two strollers with her or a wagon with kiddies inside*L* when I do our morning and evening walks I'm usually alone, but we only go 3 miles so it doesn't take long, but when I go bushwalking on the weekends hubby comes with me,

3 miles is a lot! I don't think I walk that far. Until I get my pedometer I'm just timing my walks. I go the same way, and the first day I made it in about 45 minutes, then the following day I made it in about 40. I'm trying to build up my speed too, that way I can go a little further daily. I'd like to keep my walking time to under an hour, just because I want to get home and relax and spend some time with the gang.

if you're walking for 45 minutes then I bet you're between 2 and 3 miles!!! wait till you get your pedometer, you'll see and be amazed, I wore it in the house one day to see how much I walk/travel with my daycare, would you believe it was 2 1/2 miles!!!

variety i find is the spice of life
i am lucky that there are a couple of schools in the hood that have stairs, or large fields with fences. sometimes, i'll let the dogs romp while i do some jumping jacks, or we'll team "climb the stairs" a couple of times. Increases the intensity.
Luna has no problem keeping pace, but Monty get a little slow on the way home...... |

Oh my gosh a doggy stroller! I could use one of those, do they make them big enough for a 60-65lb three legged Pitbull????
When we go for walks we gage our distance to Abby's abilities, which means we never get to walk too far. If I could find a dog stroller big enough for Abby, then we could walk much farther. Does anyone know if they make them for bigger dogs, or are they tailored to little dogs?
