Im getting a temporary.

On sunday i will be making a new addition to my pack.
I dont know how temprary its going to be though.
Could be up to a year maybe. Im kind of excited, i raised her from 8 weeks up until she was about 4 months old so i already know this dogs temporment and what she is like to work with .

She is my aunts dog, my aunt is in the middle of a divorce and is moving into a rental house until her new house is built. they havent even started building it yet.

This was bailey as a pup, when i was still very involved in her raising

this is bailey now.
any suggestions on how to help a dog loose weight ?

Actually , to be honest, shes even worse then that now. :/

some advice would be nice on helping her loose weight at a healthy pace.
Shes a faulty lab lol... Shes not lacking an off switch like so many ive ever experienced. shes lacking an on switch. She is THE calmest dog, and always has been. Shes very trustworthy. Hasnt been in a crate since she was a small pup and has yet to destroy or get into anything she isnt supposed to when left alone, she is amazing with a heart of pure gold.

She's a pretty girl!

Easy enough to get her to lose weight. Cut back her food. If she free feeds, switch her over to twice a day so you can control her portions. Also, get her moving. Is she toy oriented at all? Does she love to fetch? If so, it'll be easy. If she's more of a couch potato you may have to search a bit to find something that'll stimulate her mind and get her up and moving.

pbpatti and I have the same sense of humour! I was going to say first cut out the beer also! (It's in the picture...) And yes, cut down her food intake, but do it very slowly so she doesn't notice you're trying to starve her! And more activity. If she's very heavy several short, walks a day would be a good start. You don't want to push her too hard if she's not active at all, it could over stress her heart and joints. Are you near water at all? I see water in the pictures. Does she like to swim? That's a great activity that won't put stress on her joints. She sure is pretty, good luck. Oh, treats - count them as part of her food intake.

lol, yea, she really should cut down on the drinking !

Barkingdog, she is very overweight. To the point where , IMO it is neglect to let it get that far. If a dog has trouble walking or running, that SHOULD be a wakeup call, but apparently to many, it isnt . I find it so sad that people let their dogs get to this state.

My dogs are never overweight. My vet wanted to take a photo of my Standard Poodle so he could show dog owners what a perfect weighting dog looked like. It is hard to tell in the photo if your dog is overweight. I think is also sad that people let their cats get so fat they can't walk.

I totally agree. My animals are kept in prestine shape, to the point where i walked into a petstore with my lab and the ladies working were shocked to see a labrador retriever that WASNT over weight. It's just sad in my opinion that people are more shocked to see a fit dog then a rediculously obese dog. My vet also is very impressed with how good of shape Jasper (my kitty cat) is .
