Stinky dog run - HELP!!

Hi Guys!!

Ok, weird question, I know! But my dog run is sooo stinky it is driving me nuts! There is a horrible smell of urine and the smell is coming into my house because my dog run is fenced all around my patio and pool. The dogs access it through the patio doors. I pick up their feces right away, so I know it`s not that. I have lived here for 11 years, and all the dogs I had before (which have now sadly moved onto the Rainbow Bridge) where males and I never had this problem before. Now I have females. Could it be their urine that smells so bad? Right now I have sparse grass with some patio blocks in the muddier areas. I was thinking of getting a truckload of gravel (rocks), but I was afraid that would hurt their paws. What do you all think? Am I the only one with this problem?? I`m embarassed to have visitors over because of this....help!

I don't have this problem, but was curious and found this:
http://shop.petsmart.com/product/253...4441810030.htm

It does 15,000 sq ft, so should last a long time. Might be worth a look.

I am not positive but lime may work since it will change the ph. There is also a neutralizing product that you can purchase.

I use Barn Fresh or Stable boy which can be found at any Feed store.
It's comprised of Diatomaceous Earth and Montmorillonite Clay and instantly get's rid of the odour.

Oh I got a great get rid of the stinky smell home remedy!!

First of all hose down the run with water and mild detergent, add just a wee bit of unscented bleach to it in order to kill any bacteria ICK... let it dry to a dampness not completely dry.

Then with a spray bottle squirt the entire area down with a white vinegar and water solution. 5 parts of each. You may want to wear a mask only because the smell can be strong and overwhelming.

Keep a spray bottle with solution read to squirt the stinky spots after you pick up that way you stay on top of it

Don't put the doggers into the run until the smell has subsided to some degree, it wont' harm them just give them the sneezies

I know people that use gravel, all gravel and ya it causes pressure sores.

You can make part of the area gravel and train them to go w/r on that area?

And yup female urine is stronger then male urine. My dogs before were all males too, Sadie is my first female (besides fosters)

Gravel is a good idea!A friend of mine dug a deep pit in her doggy potty area, and filled it with lime and crushed gravel. On the top is crushed gravel and nice big paving stones so it looks pretty. When they potty, she picks up the poops and hoses the stones and never has an issue with smell. She then taught them to go in this area and not on the rest of the yard.
