So Apparently I have A...

Stubborn, fussy Shih Tzu. Little bugger ( Sir Quincy ) does not like his food any more. 3 vet visits later we find out he is hooked on Doggie Crack..AKA Beggin Strips. Cold turkey for you bub. I have tried almost everything to get him to eat. (no after reading about the green tripe... , not that stuff) Mashed potatoes, gravey, prime rib, steak, chicken, pasta, fresh veggies, cooked veggies, steamed veggies, white rice, brown rice, fish, fresh eggs, raw meat, half cooked meat, hamburger, doggie omlets, fruit and yes even cat food. Wet dog food, dry dog food. expensive dog food, cheap dog food, baby food, pancakes, turkey, rabbit.....ARRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG So the vet says give him nothing but dog food and he will eat when he gets hungry. And we are off to get him better snacks. Little bugger pukes if his tummy is empty...Sigh, I need a drink....a big one..

I agree with you vet ...as long as Quincy is healthy and at a good weight then just feed him dog food only .....good quality though and not the vet crap.

And, glad you dumped the Beggin Strips .....have you ever looked at the ingredients?

I have a spare can of Tripe that I'd be more than willing to mail off to you! Lord knows, I'll never open it!!

Quincy, Quincy, Quincy - I think you need an Intervention...I'll let you in a little secret: Once the monkey is on your back, it takes years to peel it off and send it packin'; cold turkey is the only sure-fire cure. It's OK, you WILL live through the cold sweats, the shakes, the vomiting, and the tremors.

So what snacks to you suggest? Old Mother hubbard is out of the question. Quincy and Tyra got really sick on them.

Purebites are great, single ingredient, freeze dried and can easily be crumbled ontop of meals http://www.purebites.com/products.html

Love that picture of Sir Quincy with his nose up!

I hope it isn't too long before the sweet lil gourmand decides to eat again.

LOL, omg I love his face in the second photo. What a sweetie, but a bad little boy.

I've had the same problem with the Whiskas Temptations. But, I've found some good alternatives. Liv-a-littles and Real Food Toppers. These are freeze dried all natural snacks, and my gang goes nuts for these.

Well Sir Quincy went cold turkey. NO Treats what so ever. So tonight he decided that his wet kibbles with a side of warm pumpkin was a pretty good deal. He vacumed it right down, jumped up on me and burped right in my face. Please tell me that is doggie talk for compliments to the chef..

Well, I feel for you. My last two dogs were both horrible to feed.
Baxter and Bentley started to get that way too, and that's when I started cooking for them instead of buying every kind of dog food under the sun to try to get them to eat.
Another thing that we do differently with these guys is treats are just that, treats. They get high quality treats once in a blue moon. A bag of treats lasts us months, not days. Once a week they get a bully stick each and on Sunday mornings when my parents come over they get a few of their other treats, but that's it.
They totally clean their bowls at dinner time now and it's wonderful.

Cute dog you have there... Good to know he's eating well now... Raw food is good but it also depends on your dog... I've been feeding my dog raw foods for 2 years now and he's okay...
