addisons disease

Hi...our seven year old vizsla (Sam) has been diagnosed with Addison's for three years now. Sam has recently been switched from Florinef tablets which was in our budget, to a much more expensive injection called Zycortal.

We are currently prescribed from a vets office in Ontario. Sam currently gets a 2ml injection every 25days. We are charged $291 for a two months supply. Does anyone have some more information to help us possibly source a cheaper price? All info would be helpful....thanks in advance

Will your vet write you a prescription to be filled by you from an online pharmacy? If you can find a reputable company, it's often much cheaper to order online.

The rub is that you have to have a vet willing to write you the prescription and let you fill it elsewhere. Some vets charge for the prescription and some won't do it at all.

Another caveat--make sure the place you order from is legit. Most of them have BBB listings online that include customer reviews.

Why was the medication switched? Is it possible to go back to the Florinef?

He started getting sick again...similiar symptoms from when first diagnosed. we had his panels checked and the vet told us that sometimes tablets do not work well in the long run. the vet tried increasing the dosage but his levels remained low.
