Broken Nail
Bayley managed to break off one of her nails,,,again... She's not bleeding profusely but the end of it is gone and exposed. First time she did it, I took her to the vet cause the end was hanging on and 200.00 later and pain killer and antibiotics..egads!! I'm thinking of putting a sock and taping it up with vet wrap. Glad it's winter so there's less muck for her to get into and the cold keeps it from bleeding. I know there's an antibacterial soap I can clean it with just can't remember what it's called anybody know?

Yikes, that sounds painful for poor Bayley. Sorry I don't have any advice or the name of the soap. What about just calling the vet and asking what you could wash it with?? I was just asking my friend who's dog has a bad foot with an open sore (it's an ongoing issue that they may have to remove the leg because of). She said she takes a large pot of very warm water and puts the dogs foot into it and then puts in 1 cup of epson salts. She swishes the water around until the minerals dissolve and it sooths the sore foot and cleanses the wound.

She must be a tough dog, didn't hear a peep out of her, didn't even stop playing! I was going to do the epsom salts tonight and dry it and vet wrap it. I think the cold helps, although we don't have much snow right now.

The soap is called Hibitane as far as I know it's only available at the vets & must be diluted with water. It's actually a surgical scrub & quite strong which is why it need to be diluted.
You can check w the receptionists at your vet to see if they will sell or give you a small bottle of it, I had years ago bought a small bottle for a few dollars from the vet I had been using then.

ah yes that's it! I'm going to try just epsom salts for now. I was at the feed store today and they have some of the stuff we used to use on horses but I didn't get any as wasn't sure, if it doesn't say dogs as well, I tend not to want to use it. It doesn't seem to be bothering her she's only licked it a few times and has left it alone. I cancelled her walk today as I'd rather keep her off the streets.
