Buddy For Mister

its been stuck in my head. ive tried quieting it. money is tight but loosening a bit since Chris got a raise and we have taken care of some of our debt AND we have had some parental support AND we ahve worked through some of our food kinks (dog foods not so expensive now that we are shopping smarter).

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...petid=10197382

anyways... ive come up with a million reasons to NOT get another dog but that little voice in my head wont shut up. i feel like Mister would be mentally happier and healthier with a buddy. i think ive figured out this dog thing (being a cat person and all that). i survived puppy hood.... can offer a home to a dog of any age....

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...petid=10032566

as a kid, we always had 2 at a time but i was a kid. im not really sure what all my parents had to go through to make 2 happen. my mom swears up and down they dont occupy each other, they only demand twice the attention from you. that its not liek having children where they keep each other busy. while im not asking for another dog to keep the current dog busy, i really dont think i have the energy to go through TWO dogs needing runs and walks and ball tossing and feet time at the couch and ripping up TWO paper towel rolls.... if you get my drift.

http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...petid=10160961

see... this is the kid of dog i wanted in the FIRST PLACE... you know.... like under a million pounds!!!
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=9624020

some food for thought?? heck of an adoption fee but she comes with 'all the extra junk' that we wouldnt have to purchase. too bad she is a bad swimmer!! you know, we would be thyroid defective together.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...?petid=9911635

some sort of yin yang thing going on in our house anyway....
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/...petid=10180979

*sigh* someone talk me out of this please.

Okay, as someone who's never actually had just one dog, and thinks single dogs look lonely and weird and sort of like they're missing a limb.............

DO. NOT. DO. IT. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

They combine their little pea brains and use the combined power for evil.
They teach each other things that one dog never would have figured out.
They learn to cooperate to better cause trouble.
Oh, and have you ever tried walking two dog, when they spot a cat, and even though you've taught them each a "leave it" command separately, they have some sort of telepathic connection that is used to have the following exchange:
"jump on the cat, I'm right behind you"
"no, we;ll get into trouble"
"come on, don't be a wimp, we out weigh her, what's she gonna do?"
"no, it wouldn't be nice.......you're going to do it too?"
"yeah, I promise, I'm right here, I've got your back"
"well......'kay, here I go, the kitty's gonna get it"

.....see the problem?

I admit though, two dogs are awesome, but it's really going to be 5 times more work than one, you do know that, right?

Well, hazel certainly won't try to talk you out of it...luckily, her connection isn't robust enough to open those petfinder links ...but I will caution you to put a vet on retainer and get a prescription for valium.

i just feel like he has no one else to talk to. no one who talks 'dog', no one who walks 'dog', who eats 'dog', no one who really wants to share the water... you know? *sigh*

i stopped looking at petfinder. i cant do this to myself. ive been fighting another dog for a few months now. that injured pup a few weeks ago.... Skye, no go. they seemed hesitant to let her go even to a foster home, for some reason. i was really just too far away to express real interest in her.

As long as he has you, he probably doesn't miss having another dog to slobber up his water too much. You're his object of adoration.

I think Mister might benefit from a doggy buddy.

Oh hell, I say go for it. If you can handle it money-wise and you have the room and you think they will get along why not?

I'm all for it! lol

I have 3 dogs. I actually don't find 2 more work then 1 or 3 more work then 2.

I mean, there is more poop to clean up, more food to buy and more vet expenses but I do the rest the same as I would if I only had 1 dog. I walk all 3at the same time so that's the same.

I think it becomes more important to have well behaved dogs when you have more because they do feed off and imitate each other. If mine tried to chase cats or squirrels on leash I wouldn't be able to handle them all at once!

I would try to add another one with the same level of energy as Mister so you don't wind up with an energetic dog and a lazy dog I babysat a dog (I had 4 for one month!!) and the one I was watching was much smaller and couldn't keep up with my dogs so that was pain - trying to give mine all the exercise they need and are used to but not wanting to push the other guy too much!

Mister has been an invaluable learning lesson on how to cope with a dog, and the perfect companion to make all your mistakes with. he is so patient, forgiving, understanding (cause mom sure doesnt make sense!!!) and obedient.... and lazy.

id like to take the next few months to look for a pooch with a little higher energy level than Mister has to get him off his lazy butt. i cant drag him out of sleeping other than to pee and get a drink before 1pm. he humors me. barely. lately here, i dont even bother. the evenings he runs around, bounces off the walls, runs around with the kid, plays ball with mom (even inside since its been raining so much, we're talented!).

im also kinda worried abotu messing up our good thing. he is smart, works really well with me (cause we all know he knows what he is doing) follows me everywhere...

we have plans of moving the fence to make more room for him. we made the decision to stay in the house another 5-8 years. Shadow is going to live with my mom (HUGE relief for us!!!) and Baby Girl has a possible home lined up. a friend of mine has one cat already but she isnt a partier, she never wants kids, multimillionaire heiress who loves loves cats who is willing to feed raw. how cool is that??

Chris says he is receptive. my sister needs to move out for Mom to take Shadow, my friend is finishing school and purchasing a house in May and who knows when we will get around to moving the fence and rebuilding the deck out back. all of those thigns need to happen for us to take on another dog.

just thinking out loud.

Not to rain on your parade but weren't you posting just a few months ago about money being so tight that you might have to give up some animals? I love having two dogs but honestly Lucy (first dog) seemed just as happy when she was the only dog so I don't think that you need two to make Mister happy. I would recommend that you give it another six months or so to make sure you really can afford a new guy or possibly even consider doing some fostering.

Good luck!

W4R,I remember that too, although I am really pleased things are looking up for your family, maybe you should let your impulses rest for a bit, stay AWAY from Petfinder.
Looking at all those needy pups, especially the Rottie, who probably has already met his fate,I can understand how you feel though..

Why don't you foster Tom, then you will not be getting another dog, but will have another dog for you and Mister and save this little guy for now. Hoping that he is dog-friendly of course.

hopefully when people have money issues, they work though them. the money problems are looking better. we were pretty bent on selling the house we are in and buying a different, more appropriate house for our family. our biggest motivation for that was the neighbors dogs barking from 7am until 10-11pm and since she was laid off from work, or retired or whatever, we have had very few problems with the dogs barking. the decision to stay another few years doesnt solve space issue but a lack of space is something we can work with. Chris received a raise AND a bonus AND we are getting back from taxes instead of having to pay (this year was really up in the air with the changes in our family). all in all, things are looking much better than even just a month ago.

Chris and i talked about it last night. the earliest my friend can take Baby Girl would be May, my mother wont be able to take Shadow for another month or so and we can NOT do another dog until the fence is moved.... that will also have to wait for drier weather. im not talking abotu getting another dog now, next month or even likely the month after that. but talking through things now sounds like a good idea. id say its safe to give us 4 or more months to change our minds or get use to the notion of having another dog around.

Oh no, poor Tom, Feb 15 is coming fast, quick go to the rescue. Whoops I'm sorry, I was suppose to talk you out of it

Gracie states she is good with Cats & Kids. $hit I am doing it again.

Nooooo, don't adopt any, Mister is not from a social genus and should not be paired with another of his species.

that is all I have to contribute.

Good luck with your will power.

Lukkas ma, you have my boys down to a tea.

2 are a lot of fun, they do occupy each other to a degree. They play and romp and chase each other around. They also fight sometimes and squabble and vie for attention.
I love having my 2. I've enjoyed the puppies as they grow and develop. It is a lot of work though, and double the cost of everything when it comes to the annual vet visit.
Now Hazel on the other hand with her crew Two is only a parti pack to her.
