Strange episode with 7 year old lab mix
Hi eveyone! We have a 7 year old lab mix and had something very strange happen day before yesterday. When we got up he would just stand in one place with his tail stuck down very tight to his butt and his head hanging low. His stance was also kind of stretched out. We could not get him to sit or lay down. He would wimper and shake a bit at times. We tried several times to get him to come down the stairs and finally after an hour we got him to come down and go out but he didn't do anything. (We do live in Minnesota and it was cold that morning) He was like this all day. When my daughter got home from school he was back up stairs standing in that same position as earlier. We did get him to come down stairs after many attempts again. He didn't eat anything until we fed him when he was laying down we put it on the floor in front of him. He downed it like no tomorrow. But he would not go near his water. Finally around 7 pm he did go out and did his business. Then the next morning he got up and was 50% better and by 5 pm the next day he was back to the normal dog we know. We did take him to the vet and they didn't find anything wrong. The other weird thing is we did see him do this funny thing with his tail and head about a week and a half ago. But it was only for an hour or so. Just thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone has ever experience anything like this.

Dogs do get dementia , maybe this could be happening . Maybe you should watch your dog and see if he acting forgetful in any ways.

Labs and other sporting dogs are prone to a disorder called "Cold Tail Syndrome". If you google it you will see some of the symptoms and such. It could be worth asking your vet about if it comes up again. My lab had it a few years ago and a short bout of anti-inflamatories from the vet had her fixed up in no time. Good luck with your pup. If it happens again, try taking a video or pictures so your vet has an idea what you're talking about in case it remedies itself again before you take him in.

Thanks so much for your reply. The video idea is a great one. That way the vet can see it in action! I will also look up the cold tail syndrome. See if we can find something. It was the strangest thing and just came out of nowhere.
