TD, I dont do that!?!?!
Hey, I read that thread you posted about your grinding adventures ( lol) sounds kinda nasty
anyways, Ummmmm I dont do that! I just weigh out so much chicken(frame/backs/necks), Beef (heart, lung ect) and then feed. im sure some days they are getting more bone than necessary and other days more meat than necessary and then more 'organs' and so on.... I just go for example(1/2 pound heart) like that, The recepe is on the holder. Things seem fine is this just another way to do prey model or am i doing something potentially dangerous to the dogs????? todays treat/meal was really gross for me to feed them, but they loved it. Im not gonna get too graphic, but Im using WHAT EVER is left over from the cows, moose, pigs, chickens ect... and the beavers should start to come in soon too I talked to the trapper and I offered to pay him a bit for a few beavers and he said, NO PROB!

i wish i could do that!
the ONLY reason we're grinding right now is because otherwise, dakotah won't eat enough raw on his own and he gets all skinny and miserable. it's easy to force-feed soft mushy stuff and i know it's absolute proper and balanced nutrition in one quick dose... what YOU are doing is perfect!

k, good cause as fun as your "grinding sessions' seem I just dont have the patience for that.
Phewf, I was worried that I was doing something wrong. Why does Dakota not eat enough raw on his own??? Does he not like it? There is NOTHING left when Kita and Puppy are done! Im glad they took so well to the whole thing. PS, the cats too are doing great. They wont even look at thier kibble when I put some down for them. They must think im trying to kill them with Kibble or something. lol

I know this is an older topic but beaver meat? I know a lot of trappers and they have always offered the carcases (sp) but I have never taken them because of my "parasite paranoia" how would you feed that and what parts would you feed?

you can freeze any "questionable" meat for a few weeks, that will kill off any parasites that might be present. Many hunters don't freeze wild game meat at all before feeding to their dogs, but it's a precaution I would feel safe following IMO. in australia kangoroo meat is popular, why not beaver meat for canada eh?

hmmmm very interesting!! I'm always paranoid about parasites ever since Zoe and Buster ate part of a skunk but our vet was great about it and sent me up some de-wormer, just to calm me down LOL. I could be saving money giving my fur babies wild meat and bones. hmmmmmm now I gotta look more into this!!

Some beavers weigh upto 20 ish lbs so you have to "quarter" it yourself ( really discusting, I get my dad to come by and do it) We dont take anything out at all, when dinner time comes ( if beaver is on the menu that night) they just get thier "chunk" and they eat away at it. ( This is way more discusting so feeding of beaver happens outside) I do freeze it for a few weeks first ( they have only had one beaver treat so far) Definately if your dog will eat it, its a great meal for them.
